Korbin Albert, who left Notre Dame after two seasons with the women's soccer program to begin her professional career, won the gold medal with Team USA following Saturday's 1-0 victory over Brazil.
Albert, who started in place of Rose Lavelle, assisted on USA's only goal. Her through ball to Mallory Swanson allowed Swanson to give USA a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute. Albert, 20, became the third-youngest player to ever start for USWNT at the Olympics when she did so in the quarterfinal against Japan.
Albert's sophomore season in 2022 was her last at Notre Dame. She was a Mac Hermann Trophy finalist, the Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Year, a first-team All-American and ACC Midfielder of the Year. She's been playing professionally with Paris Saint Germain since then.
Albert becomes the third former Notre Dame women's soccer player to win an Olympic gold medal after Kate Markgraf neé Sobrero in 2004 and 2008 and Shannon Boxx in 2004, 2008 and 2012.
