Would you trade Brian Kelly for Butch Jones?

I'm kind of torn on this but I think I would. I just don't trust Kellys offense, qb development in the end.

Crust, Hendrix, Kiel, Golson, and Rees one or two of those guys should have worked out.

Maybe Hunter thought the same?

HJ had ties to 3 schools that were more meaningful than to ND. ND was in it because of Sanford; w/o Sanford ND was not in the top choices.

Not a snowballs chance in hell I make that trade.

Oh, and its a long way to February 2017. Butch could be gone by then. Just wait until they are 6-6 again. The Indians will be on the donor warpath.

BTW, Hunter didn't exactly set the world on fire this weekend.

Let's see if Butch can get a team to the national championship game. Kelly has.

Crowing about the 2012 title game is like the Bills crowing about losing the Superbowl to the Cowboys 52-17.

Having said that, I think UT makes a jump this season. Jones is the real deal and seems to know offense and qb's better than Kelly. I just don't trust his rinky dink offense.

Wrong. That Bama team was the best team in the last decade. They would have beaten last years OSU by three scores, at least. Getting the 2012 Irish to the NC game with a Freshman qb was a great accomplishment. Butch Johnson hasn't done anything close. Its about winning. Jones hasn't done it near at the level Kelly has.

Perse, without looking it up, wasn't 76 the Reds over the Yankees? I could be wrong as I am not much of a baseball person. To argue your point, I don't care if someone who is not a college football fan, as I am not a baseball fan, remembers that ND lost the NC game to Bama in 2012. What I care about is that Kelly has proven he can get ND into that game. Hopefully their won't be a semi-pro team waiting for them next time. Think about this, if that 2012 team had played an Oregon team with three of its five top playmakers out, as OSU did last year, we may be talking about a 2012 NC for ND. The luck of the draw was that they got a Bama team loaded with future NFL players and with championship game experience.

Didn't that Bama team have a loss and come within a whisker of losing to Georgia in the sec championship game?

How could that team be best in the decade?

Up until Tenn, hasn't Butch Jones just taken advantage of the programs that BK built and handed over to him?

I like Butch, but I'm not sold he is a big time guy.

Alabama didn't play their best and that Georgia team was at full strength after getting through the season with only one loss. They were certainly better than last year's champion (OSU) and the one before that(FSU). In fact, in the last decade, their hasn't been a B1G team that would have beaten either Bama or Georgia in 2012.

OK. SInce you seem to be a CFB genius, please explain what makes Jones the real deal? Kelly took over a morbid CMU and turned them around, Butch followed him and gained the benefit of BK's efforts. He again followed Kelly at UC, and Kelly had a significantly better 3 year record. JOnes 2 year record at UT isn't as good as Kelly's first 2 in South Bend.
BTW, Kelly's rinky dink offense had #1 FSU beaten last year. A huge BS call handed FSU the game.

You come up with some rinky dink thoughts and comments.

We will see if UT goes 7-5 in Jones 5th year. 2012 was a fluke. That was another 8-4 Kelly ND team that caught every break imaginable and was playing inspired ball for Two's 'dead girlfriend'.

USC still almost won and they had a freshman playing his first game and a guy dropped a TD at the end.

I guess if you want to say that it was a great accomplishment to get that far because its impossible to win at ND, then OK I can agree with that. But honestly, Kelly is not a top ten coach.

Really? Of the 2012 team so far 17 players have been drafted to the NFL including: 5 first round picks, 2 second round picks, 3 fourth round picks, etc.

That O line was insane for the 2012 championship: Cyrus Kouandjio, Chance Warmack, Barrett Jones, Anthony Steen, and DJ Fluker. All started, and all have gone on to the NFL.

And let's not get into the key positions, such as Lacy, and Yeldon at RB, Norwood, and Cooper at WR.

And at Defense you had names likes: Trey DePriest, CJ Mosley, Ha Ha Clinton Dix, Jesse Williams, Ed Stinson, Dee Milliner, and Damion Square. All of which are starters or in the 2 deep as of last year in the NFL.

That was an awesome team.

I'm confused

You favor a coach who hasn't won 8 games yet...but shit on Kelly??

Has Indiana convinced you that losing is the go of CFB??

That was 2011, not 2012.

Bama's O-Line in 2012 was the best college O-line in a generation. Totally negated our biggest strength.

This is not Tennessee's year. They played 23 freshmen last season, and remain very young. They are, though, accumulating some elite talent, but depth and experience is a problem.

A couple players you will be hearing about are Derek Barnett and Kahlil McKenzie, who is a Mack Truck with speed.

Tennessee is likely 7-5 this season, but next year they will be able to play with anyone.

Tennessee also leads for the Number One quarterback for the 2018 class.

That could possibly change now.

Pure luck that got him there. What happened when he got the team to the title game? Got out classed and embarrassed the program.
False. A lot more than luck went into that 2012 team. It was a great year for ND. Big wins over Stanford, Oklahoma and Michigan paved the way. All teams have some luck. For example, that Alabama team needed Georgia to make a mental mistake on the last play of the game to win the SEC title game.

Kelly and the 2012 team deserve and receive a lot of credit for going from unranked to a top five finish. Jones hasn't done anything close.

Both are good coaches, but the truth is Jones is in a far more Head Coach friendly environment.
therefore its impossible to compare them. Losing a NC is not the desired highlight of any Head Coaches career.
2nd place in America - ?
