Wonder if Kelly would now say that his QB situation is better than tOSU.

I would say now it actually is better. They have a starting QB not rotating QBs. That's the way it should be.

OSU has a good problem to have, but it is still a problem. Managing the egos and expectations of those 3 guys might be troublesome.

There also isn't a guarantee that they will all be wearing OSU uniforms next year.

Let me try and understand this. It is better to have a QB starting with very little game experience and a back up with no game experience then to have an experienced QB and a potential good QB on the roster at the same time. Some of you fans are placing all of your marbles into one bowl. If MZ turns into a turnover machine there is no one coming out of the bullpen for the save. If MZ has injuries as many running QBs do, Plan B is to rely on a completely untested inexperienced youngster to step right in and lead the offense like Tommy Clements was still the QB. I will, admit that BK has to deal with the cards that he has been dealt, but I have to believe that the offensive staff are all concerned. They are all not that naïve.

Kind of a dumb thing to say publicly.. Put his foot in his mouth..

Our coach is in desperate need of PR training. PS urban threw out the first pitch in Yankee stadium tonight. He was wearing a Yankee jersey.... He and Harbaugh are going to have some great showdowns. Michigan sucks. Please kill them. Also, have you guys shot this osu fan yet? Linked Lastly, a qb on your '61 nc team told me he was heading to Purdue and woody showed up at his house. The qb was told by his parents to go out on the porch a little while later he was called in and told he was going to osu...

just like "all-pass" thinking will not work, neither will "all-run"; What I expect to see from Sanford is an offense where sitting in front of the TV, I don't always know the next play call or what is going to happen. I expect he will put defenses in that same position.

At one point in time, ND had Golson, Kiel and Zaire on the depth chart. All 3 will be 1-A starters this year. All 3 will get a chance to make an NFL roster. Kiel and Jones probably have the best shot because of their prototypical QB measurables.

Back when Kiel left, I commented (no proof, I know) that I thought an underreported factor in his decision was Zaire arriving on campus. I hypothesized that Kiel knew he'd have a tough time beating out Malik when Golson moved on. Today's college athletes want to be the man right away and not wait for their opportunity. I was very impressed that Wimbush admitted embracing a red-shirt year to learn the system.

Kudos to Urban for keeping all 3 guys on board, but there is only one football to throw around. Having great #2 and #3 QBs will only help win games if #1 goes down. Otherwise they are taking away reps and potentially causing chemistry issues behind the scenes. Everyone is envious of OSU's QB situation except the 2 guys who are going to be holding clipboards. If they hadn't just won the title, I don't think all 3 would still be on the roster. I'm also not convinced they'll all be at OSU in August either.

Anyways, I would take their May 2015 situation over ours, but don't throw our coaches under the bus because they aren't Urban or Saban. They are getting high level recruits to campus and getting them degrees. The next step is to find the one that will lead us to the playoffs! I am very optimistic in Zaire's running ability, leadership and intangibles. Hopefully Sanford can mix in enough passing and other offense to be the difference over the past few offenses.

Go Irish!

#1 reason GK left was that ND was not for him - aside from the football aspects. He was just not happy.
He would be a The incumbent starter if he was still at ND; and CH would be starting HT threads !

Kiel left because Coach Martin was mean to him. Indian, LSU, ND and now Cincinatti. EG at least came back and got his degree from ND. He should have stayed for his final year but that is old news. Just because he is going to another school doesn't mean he isn't taking his baggage with him. He could have "grown up" and taken control of his game and the team and had a strong year. The odds of him moving on to another program and system and succeeding are not good. Something is missing with EG. He has the arm talent to be great but he doesn't seem to want to pay the price.

kiel has proven over and over that the path of least resistance was most important to him. he found that at cinci where he was HANDED the starting job. he won't find that at the next level. hopefully for him he finds an easy degree in case the nfl doesn't work out for him.

I am so tired of people from second and third rate academic institutions coming to this board with their bolderdash. Please get out of here and don't come back until you apologize for all the morons you let into your "School", in order to win a National Championship.

More like a path to the nfl. What has Kelly done to prove he can develop a QB? Nothing. Quit trashing a guy who wanted to play. Kiel left because of the combination of just not feeling comfortable at ND and not being given a fair opportunity to beat out two joke Qbs in Golson and Rees. Give it a rest.

save your revisionist history. the kid kept jumping ship until he found a place that would hand him a starting job competition free. he'll never get that in the nfl. maybe he'll go to the Canadian league.

not giving a fair opportunity is more bullshit coming from you. He didn't even compete and he before he left he was behind Hendrix who couldn't hit the ocean from the pier. Stop posting garbage

"Wonder if Kelly would now say that his QB situation is better than tOSU."

At the time he said it, he had 2 QB's capable of being starters, similar to OSU. So no, it was not a dumb thing to say at that time.

You on the other hand.....keep urban's foot in your mouth.

That's not his foot.....

Fact is that each one of the 3 o$u QB's is better than either Golson or Zaire. I credit BK for propping up his guys but to needlessly draw comparisons between ND's 2 QB's and o$u's 3 in the wake of a Nat'l Championship season was patently ridiculous.
