About admissions and the type of player ND recruits. I have one question to you above my pay grade. Could Lou's players get in to ND today. If yes i have no problem with the status quo. If no there needs to be some changes.

recruiting was heading down that slippery slope when Lou was at ND. It more that ND has stood pat while others have followed the slippery slope.

Lots and lots of Lou's players would get in today. The issue is not in the center it's on the margins. You are talking about a handful of kids.

from what I get figure C Zorich and T Rice would not get in today - Tony was a prop 48 thus he would not get in to ND today . Academics is the reason Lou Holtz left imo, that combined with how the Randy Moss situation played out made Lou not a happy camper .

Don't think the Moss situation had anything to do with Lou leaving. I think him being involved in a brawl in high school was the reason. He never was a fit at ND. He was never an ND type of kid. Lou was a fantastic coach but the job just beat him up. He loved the school and was/is a fantastic ambassador for the school.

I think Lou could have stayed at ND 2-3 more years, but, from accounts I recall, he and Wadsworth did not see eye to eye. The prior AD, Rosenthall (I think that was his name) kind of let Lou run the hen house a bit. Wadsworth was having none of that.

Hard to compare today with back then, when every top recruit was looking at ND. The pool of players looking at the Irish are smaller now so it's slim pickings, that's the landscape of college football today.

Very good point. ND had the luxury of being the "cool school" to go to at the time.
