Will a typical 8-5/9-4 BK season in 2017 mean he'll be back in 2018?

I can see the UND/NBC/Jack Nolan propaganda/spin now: "Doubled his win total from last season .. Irish on the rise!"

Is this really what successful seasons at Notre Dame look like these days?

Does ND not have the resources to write a blank check to entice the best coach in the country to come to ND?

How in the world is this program, with all of its wealth, stuck in the mud now for going on almost 3 decades?

Anything less than 10 wins should be termination. He should have a better experienced defense. If he can't get some quality wins next year then I think it's time to part ways.

College football has changed so much in over 3 decades. Fans care more than the alums do dude it's like that at a lot of universities.

no

the problems are reaching into the future. Recruiting is sinking. As recruiting fails the failures will mount.
Things are never simple. But to keep it simple: winning on Saturday is the esults of several factors, all of which require 1 thing: 'natural talent'.

If you fire your coach you lose recruits, if you keep your coach your losing recruits so which one is it. I'll tell you what give me 10 wins next year and recruiting is back on track. I'm reluctant to give Kelly one more year but I think it's the best move for next year. You have to get a big time coach with an impressive resume to turn this around quick and we don't have that candidate.

you are clueless. behind the scenes, this is worse than you realize in the long run (5-6yrs)
You canot burn consecutive years in recruiting and if K returns it is minimum 3= disaster.
Ask yourself this, the ultimate conclusion is known, so why? why deliberately inflict that kind of damage to the program?

You're a pessimist, acting like the program is on its last legs and will die if they don't fire Kelly. We've been in the same cycle for 3 decades. We went 3 and 9 under Charlie did it die? no. Relax. I don't care who's the coach or players, I just want to win. Tell me the big name candidate with a pedgree available an I'll be on board. Bc here's what happens you hire a guy without a track record his leash is as short your Fandom. One bad season you'll yell to all that will listen "he's in over his head." This is how this cycle started. You don't know if Kelly can turn this around and neither do I but I'm ok giving him one more year.

1st, the clueless comment was out of line. regret that.
but times move faster and with more impact, this is a crossroad for ND.

I stand by my statement about recruiting. News is not encouraging.

(ex. Urban made a personal appearance w/ND commits; they were 'charmed')

If Kelly wins 8 games next year, he's definitely staying. Yes, the standards have been lowered for the football program. Is there any question about that?

ND has "paid its dues" when it comes to football. I compare it to an artist, like say Elvis. There comes a point in their career where they don't need chart-topping singles and albums to be mega-successful anymore. Elvis was a bloated shell of himself stuffed into a sequined Liberace jumpsuit doing cheesy shows in Vegas, yet people still flocked to see him. He was basically printing his own money, and he couldn't even remember the lyrics to his old songs. He was an institution.

ND doesn't need to bring in top talent anymore. They need to win enough games to remain semi-relevant, in a nod to their past glories. They are an institution. Let the money roll in.
