I am on the fire Kelly bandwagon, but would much rather discuss the merits of the coaching job than read about what a fat, dumb, idiot, irish mick the coach is.

I don't understand why people get down right nasty about it: insulting everything from the coaches appearance to his height, how he speaks, his family, his race, etc. seems to all be fair game because his team lost more games than the fan base was expecting this season. Is this just a college football tradition?

Irrationality of ego-driven fans who want the team they support to be the best, even perfect. Too many fans want to brag about supporting a team; unclear if they really support a team or just an idea of a team.

I believe this type of ridiculous attitude has gotten worse in the last 50 years. Even in 1966 when Ara was widely criticized for the Michigan State game, my recollection is that most ND fans defended him but that was a while ago. Today, I think most posters on this board would have joined the critics.

Compare to NFL fans who spend more time arguing why their team is better than yours.

The rush of thinking you are self important and edgy by shaming others from within a pack. Contrary opinions are excuses. Repeating damning language and embracing intolerable derision is sublime. You might hit the sweet spot. More than 15 minutes of disdain. Fame is out the window. You are just puppets for hatas.

I say start again. New AD and new HC. But... Kelly is not on the field. He didn't miss any tackles, or field goals. Could he have better prepared the team? Maybe. Could the players have worked harder? Definitely.

My gripe with Kelly is the ineptitude we have in short yardage situations. 3rd down from 3 yards out, we pass. 3rd and 2, we pass. 3rd and 1, we pass. 2nd and 10, we run. The QB is deep in the backfield, even on short yardage. You cant win if you cant convert 3rd and short. Good teams can convert on 3rd and short. we can't. His play calling is atrocious.

I'm sick of it all. Let's start over with a new coach. Who can we get? Tough situation. Whoever we get, I hope the players love him, play hard for him, and get that FIRE back, There is no fire now for sure.

nor did Kelly throw that pick against Tulsa or center those shotgun snaps against NC State. But he built that.

What I have not seen in the last many years is passion, energy, and a sense of urgency when ND plays -- especially the ones where ND should simply steam roll someone -- they come out flat, not enthused, and subsequently, end up in a dog fight. Holtz's teams, and even some of Davie's at least put those kinds of teams away early.

Also -- especially this year, ND's fundamentals -- to out it mildly -- suck. Things that you learn in middle school like blocking and tackling seem to have gone by the wayside.

Agreed. And in reality, these are all items that can easily be rectified. But sadly, they will not be as Kelly is much too arrogant to recognize that changes need to be made to his coaching style and/or mentality.

He needs to reinvent HIMSELF, and subsequently, his team. Become an innovator again, not a "take what the defense gives you" type of coach. Don't out-think yourself, and let your players and their talent (talent you recognized and recruited) take games over.

Sadly, I don't think he will do any of this. And it will eventually cost him his job.

Arrogance. I believe all successful coaches have it. The difference is whether you're a winner or a loser. Win and it will be perceived as confidence, lose and you're a pompous a-hole. Right now Kelly is losing. Add to the fact that he is audacious. His sideline antics are legendary, from his purple rage to calling his players names and assaulting grad assistants. I believe if he were winning most would look past his personnel shortcomings. However, since he isn't people all calling him on the carpet.

Accountability. Kelly doesn't take nor have any accountability. This is key. In order for change to be made you have to realize a change needs to be made. Kelly thinks he's doing a bang up job and lays the blame elsewhere. So therefore, us fans realize that nothing is going to change. He will probably roll with Elston as the DC, Longo will continue as his S&C coach, and a grad assistant will probably take over special teams. 7 wins here we come!

Jilted. Everyone knows if Kelly could move on he would. So you have a fan base that is scornful and rightfully so. Who likes feeling unwanted?

"We don't have time to practice special teams".

"I'm being Brian Kelly, so if people have a problem with that, then they're not going to be friends or fans of Notre Dame football," Kelly said in mid-October. "I'm just going to be who I am."

"Get used to it."

"You can see the players that I recruited here," Kelly said Thursday. "You know who they are. We've had one class … that I've had my hand on. The other guys here are coming along. But it's a process."

"attrocious"

"Zero. None. Absolutely None"

So you have a fan base that is angry, upset, frustrated, and tired. Remember that Mike Valenti rant? Thats what you have here. When emotions ride high the vitriol comes out. Similar to when Kelly called TJ a "fing moron".

Because he's the boss and we suck,or how about he hired the assistant coaches who aren't getting the job done,or how about if we were playoff bound he would get the credit. If you don't like the temp of the "big chair" don't take the position. That's why.

Throw in an unprecedented hammering by the NCAA...his incessant bloviating about RKGs...guns, arrests, cheating... and the worst offense of all .... sideline dancing which looks like perse out of change at a pay toilet....

What a strange post. More of a mish mash of loosely connected thoughts than a post, but whatever.

Lose eight games...I don't care who you are...you will get heat. Especially if you are paid millions.

Mistakes in week 12 are the same ones made in week 1 ... false starts, defensive offsides, bad snaps, delays of game.
Early leads disintegrating due to one team making adjustments and one not.

Those are coaching gaps.

CGVR..."..and sideline dancing that looks like Perse out of change at a pay toilet". That's one hell of a visual. That whole scene bugged me because it seemed contrived and enthusiasm and sideline energy needs to be real and spontaneous. Way too many happy faces bouncing up and down while we're losing the damn game.
