I read the article on the front page of this site. My view of Jarron took a little hit.
He feels bad he could of helped the team especially on the last field goal block attempt.
He missed the team breakfast due to oversleeping because of playing Xbox and was suspended for the game.
*** If playing Xbox is more important than playing for a playoff birth I don't know what to say. That game was much more important than this game coming up against Ohio State. Now that I know this I don't care if he oversleeps and misses the Fiesta bowl either.
This shouldn't happen to a senior IMO.

Gee; I didn't even know he was physically capable of playing during the Stanford game??? Seems like an odd situation/report.

“What happened was I ended up not traveling because I was late to breakfast and I had the intent of suiting up. I feel like if it would've come down to that last play, Stanford and field goal block. They needed somebody like me. I feel like they would've thrown me in there. I could have done something and helped. I blame myself a lot for that game. Even though I didn't play, I still blame myself for that game.”

Jones said he was late to breakfast because he slept in after falling asleep while playing a Call of Duty videogame.

“It's hard when your team is out there and they need you and you can't really help them,” he said. “You're not even there to coach them up. It's really hard. When they're winning, it's the best feeling in the world. It's like, 'They can do this good without me.' That's the best thing about it. I realize the team could've made the playoffs. I believe wholeheartedly they should have made the playoffs, but everything happens for a reason.”

Chill out.. Doubt he would have blocked the kick. He might have gotten reinjurred..

It is not like this is the choice he made; not a well-supported conclusion to reach.

It was a shitty decisio . But keep in mind the age and maturity of these guys.

At least he owned up to it. HD didn't make it someone else's fault.

While it sucks that Jarron made a poor decision, in reality ND lost to Stanford because the offense crapped the bed (again) in the redzone, particularly in the first half and the the much maligned ND secondary couldn't cover an extremely average receiving group (Cajuste in particular). Re-watch that game. ND smothered Stanford's Heisman Trophy candidate by playing 7-man boxes, but was forced into playing Cover 1 and Cover 0 in the process. In doing so, Stanford completed chain-moving 3rd down passes. On the other side of the ball ND continued to frustrate the hell out of me in the red-zone. Their scheme bothers the hell out of me. All the way down the field ND ran the ball on Stanford, and the Cardinal loaded the box in the red zone. One of the things the average fan doesn't know about the ND offense is that while Brown and Fuller are fast and Jones and Robinson are big targets, none of them are good route runners and they struggle to get open in man situations, when they're not asked to beat people deep (in the redzone). TJ Jones would have had a field day in those situations.

ND has brought in a ton of speed and height in it's receiving corps, but they really lack a savvy route runner (or a guy with the "shake" to get open) for those slants and option routes in the redzone. I'm really hoping that Torii Hunter Jr develops into that guy... Jeff Samardzija, Golden Tate and TJ Jones are all really missed in the redzone right now.

Geez Louise... I hope you've never been 21 before.

Bodi, I took the whole story about the Stanford game with a grain of salt. I think Jones is dramatizing this a bit. Nothing we've read suggests he could have played, and he's only suggesting that maybe they would have put him in on the last play, and I seriously doubt it. I think him suiting up was probably symbolic, and he blew it. He was a challenge to get motivated and disciplined his first two years as I recall, and perhaps he took a small step back with the injury and missing Spring and the season. Just my take.

The troubling part of all this is the following - is he really gonna make any kind of difference vs. OSU ? He won't be in game shape - he will also be very rusty. And w/ his past stated here according to Telx1 - if anything, w/ all things being considered - he most likely may be a detriment to the D. We are probably better off having him just sit this one out and come back next season w/ a full stable of fall practices and get ready for the first game next season. Pretty disappointing. I hope the coaches don't play him in the bowl game.

Irishblessing, I think the Stanford punishment got his attention, and he seems back on track. Kelly speaks about his push and how that was missed all season, and so if he is 100% physically, then I'm all for him getting his thirty reps in the bowl game.

Spot on.

Wow he goes all season without playing and call of duty is what kept him up at night? I could understand if excitement about the possibility of playing made sleep difficult but call of duty? Shame on him. He's got to be better than that and Notre Dame is not the place to make those type of mistakes. Subway

That doesn't really give you the impression he was going to play much, if at all. Suiting up is not the same as playing.

IIO, I have read different opinions on our RZ formation. Some say it really hurts ND when they go empty backfield in RZ and others say it's not that big of a deal. What is your opinion on the empty backfield in the RZ.

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I have to blame the D more. Red zone issues notwithstanding, 36 points and a lead with 30 sec left should be enough to win.

Shame on him??? Why? - for playing video games?? Kids aren't allowed to play video games the night before they leave for a road game?? Lighten the eff up.

A video game did not cause him to miss the game. Oversleeping did. What caused him to oversleep is inconsequential. He's an adult - he needs to get his ass out of bed one way or another.

Good life lesson he'll probably not soon forget.
