Where you at Buguit?

Buguit will be back. He may be passionate, but he has been the most accurate commentator on the state of ND men's basketball on this site for pretty much the past decade. Giving him a hard time is like calling Warren Buffet a bad investor after one bad year.
The big difference with this team and past Brey teams is that we actually have players who can and will drive to the hoop and we play some defense. I think we can go as far as hot shooting and a short bench will take us.

Totally disagree. You may not like him--and he certainly is negative and sarcastic--but he offers criticism that is based on the performance on the court. I'd say his criticism has been borne out by I don't know how many first-round losses in the tournament.

Anyone spewing the "He only shows up after losses and not wins" mantra does not know what they are talking about .... self serving statements that don't cost anything to throw out ....
So the question I'm guessing is Brey suddenly vindicated??? .... it's been 14 years .... if you can say that he is doing anything different from the year we lost to Holy Cross at home in the NIT .... Holy Cross doesn't give athletic schollys by the way
This team is very good and lead by Connaughton and Grant ..... We beat Miami (very mediocre) .... and Duke played just horrible .... Coach K gets an F for that game ..... he sat there the whole game not doing anything as his team folded (played with no fire or discipline) .... Duke could've used a TO 10 times over in the 1st half as things went from worse to worse to unbelievably worse ..... Coach K sat there .... silent ..... the Duke game is the kind of game where you know ND had to be fired up for Grant for getting snubbed for ACC player of the year ..... Okafer??? .... he's good but I'm not seeing it ..... Brey did more than Coach K .... at least he was cheering ..... then we beat UNC .... ND is better than them by the way
Brey didn't coach any more in these games than he always does
This team will go and always has gone as far as the players can carry it ..... the table was set well for this ACC tourny run .... Duke laying down helped a ton ... as well as Virginia bowing out .... this stuff happens all the time
This team has talent and veteran leadership ..... how big is Bonzi Colson .... anyone see that coming?? .... hard to since Brey had him buried in the bench half the year .... which is typical

The key will be can Brey sustain this ACC momentum and keep pulling NBA caliber point guards going forward.
Right now this is an extremely sound fast break, deadly from the outside, make your foul shots team.
Our zone defenses are also very strong with folks knowing their assignments.
We need some work on breaking presses, but when it counted last night we got it done.
Dominant big men are a problem, but that's with every team.
Grant is among the best penetrating guards I've ever seen at this level.
When the going gets tough he attacks and is virtually unstoppable when playing like he's possessed.
We are a very fundamentally sound team and what we lack in bulk on the inside we make up for with agility and speed.
The key to Brey going forward may be our ACC affiliation.
There are a ton of great Catholic/other high school programs that may be easier to recruit going forward.
This post is not meant to be all inclusive as that would be a manifesto, but general observations....

Let's stop with the euphoria that clouds facts. If Mike Brey can get this team into the big dance deep instead of the usual loss in the first or second round to a nobody team, then maybe we can get the monkey off Brey's back.
You guys forget quickly and the hunger for success eliminates a lot of bad memories and results too easily.

Actually Brey out coached K -- everyone was saying Duke was going to go all the way. How do you beat a team with the best college player being guarded by 6'5" Bonzie?

Brey does need to step up the recruiting side of things (but it is tough, ND is not a one-and-done school, never was, never will be, so he is limited as to who he can get) still, he found some keepers in this starting five! What a great run!

Just to point something out here, anyone who gets in the field can still go all the way, including Duke.
And by the way, I came to Buguit's defense today becaue I think people have the right to offer their opinions. He may do it in a harsh way, but he makes valid points.
I hate to rain on Brey's parade because it is a huge accomplishment for ND basketball. When we entered the ACC I figured we'd never get close to a conference title, but I'd say that win last night was due to a perfect storm of one team turning red hot and the other unable to hold onto the ball.
This looks like a team that can make a nice run in the tournament, but it could be one and done too, just like about 50 others.
Coach Callhoun was saying today that Connecticut is always so successful come tourney time because they have great guard play. Like having a great QB guard play is critical.

I did say Brey outcoached K ..... K was awful .... he did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ..... I couldn't believe he actually sat there silent the whole game .... every time the camera panned him he was sitting down doing nothing like he was watching a movie .... Brey didn't coach either but at least he was up doing his usual cheering
Recruiting is not Brey's problem .... unless you expect to recruit like Kentucky and Duke .... not gonna happen .... we do plenty .... Grant is the ACC player of the year .... period .... and I don't think a lot of people appreciate and understand what Connaughton does ..... this guy has been thru a ton of wars on the floor in 4 years ..... his experience/leadership/hustle/smarts is off the charts .... Auguste doesn't get enough credit either .... he is a good athletic big man ..... he just gets trashed every time he doesn't show up on the stat sheet and dominate every game .... some is his fault and some not since Brey NEVER commits to attacking the paint with bigs ..... and DJAX has skill to play with anybody .... his disappearances all the time would be getting a lot more attention if we were losing more ..... he's WAYYY LEGIT .... Brey's lack of instruction just hasn't served him well at all ..... with a supporting group that can all shoot you have the makings of a dangerous team on any day
If you can't see the talent and understand this is how Brey has always done things .... like last year's abysmal season .... you understand much less basketball

I've had Bug on ignore for the last two years or so because whoever called him out for only coming around after losses was spot on. He was dead quiet through the ACC tournament until someone called him out. It's his MO and I saw someone copied his reply where he denies doing this but that's classic Bug. We get you don't like Coach Brey but to deny him any credit is plain ignorance and just destroys any arguments you make. Coach Brey recruited these young men and has turned this team around after a year in the ACC. Grant came back for a reason, Connaughton came back for a reason and this team has come together as a unit. The coach sets the tone and Coach Brey has put together a team that is fun to watch and has their egos in check.
Agree! You can not pick and choose when you like or hate the coach. If you are going to complain when ND is losing then you have to give credit to Brey now for winning.
I guy like this Buguit person is waiting for the ND hoops team to lose in the 2nd or 3rd round of the tourney. Then he can crawl out from under whatever rock he lives under, and say "see I told you Brey sucks". The guy is a cartoon character.
