Where Was Justin Brent at RB?

Could be trying to get him a redshirt. If he didn't get carries in front of Josh Anderson, that's not a good sign. I was curious to see him as well. The other backs looked good, though. Let's just hope Folston's injury isn't too serious.

I would be 100% SHOCKED if we see TF again this season.

Folston is prob done for the seadon, by most accounts; but the hope is that there was no way they would have put him in again, with even a minor ding! MRI today.

(why is there no MRI capability in the clubhouse?)

I am starting to think Brent will make us forget Kallen Wade.

Biggest reasons they can't do MRIs is thst most places don't have them bc of how expensive they are. Second reason is that you can't do an MRI until swelling subsides.

I wouldn't read anything into that. Kelly was just rewarding a young man for all his efforts as a former walk on. he's likely not to get on the field again.

Brent in fairness to im moved to the RB position a few weeks ago. He has a lot to learn. Heck he caught a TD pass in the Spring game. He is basically a freshmen. If BK knew in the Spring that Bryant was going to be ineligible ( he was already suspended 4 games) he should have moved Brent back then. The Frosh Wr's were not in town yet but he has to know his personnel. If you have 4 WR's coming and you think you may not have Bryant get the Brent kid up to par. Not a big deal that Brent didn't plasy but I do not see a RS year for him. Denson has to become the assistant coach of the year. Those guys are working OT right now.

If Procise, Adams and WIlliams can carry the load, why not redshirt Brent. Let him come into the competition next year with greater knowledge and skill at the position.

I do not like to see a player RS in his Soph year. If Brent has the talent and in practice he is doing everything right he is going to want to know why he is not getting an opportunity. BK and Denson will get this right. Getting 4 guys the same reps is tough so Brent might not see action as RB but injuries can happen anytime so it's a week to week thing . It's all coaching right now.

well swelling doesn't happen that quickly does it? ND doesn't have an MRI on the campus at all?

The swelling happens almost instantly. Thats why they wrapped it in ice. Brent may have to get some run this year, if Folston is indeed done for the year.

MRI machines are expensive: 3-5 million dollars a pop depending on the Tesla strength of the magnet. That is a lot of money for something that might be used only 20 times a year--at most. There are also maintenance and service cost, software and license agreements to pay for on a yearly basis. Better to just used the local hospital. Even pro football facilities do not have their own MRI machines. X-ray yes; MRI no.

MRI's can be done regardless of swelling. A torn ligament or meniscus can be seen regardless of swelling. However, a physician's exam can be significantly limited by swelling--especially when evaluating a knee for a torn ACL on a large and muscular individual. That's why you may have heard that you need to let the swelling go down before you see a doc, but not to get an MRI. Nonetheless, because the doc decides if you need an MRI, the swelling needs to be diminishing prior to the exam.

In Folston's case, he had an exam on the sidelines, before there was a chance for any swelling to occur. The very brief TV shot of the doc examining Folston's knee showed the physician performing a Lachman's test for laxity in the ACL.

also, you have to pay someone to run the machine and get the images. that is also expensive.

Brent seems to have been passed on the depth chart by 2 freshman and a scout team back. This is his best opportunity to become a player and if he doesnt get on the field in the next 2 games I would expect a transfer. Somebody is sending a message.

I think the freshmen are both good backs so that is surprise . I am surprised that no one in the press conference mentioned Brent at all. He was developing as a receiver so if he is not grasping the RB position then why not move him back to WR ? Fuller may go early , Brown , Carlisle graduate . Why not move him back to WR ? I do not understand but I am not at practice . He seems to have ability .

He is going to need time to learn the position. By all accounts he has great physical ability but needs to become focused on football.

I like the idea of Brent playing WR.

Folston gonna be back next year, Adams and Williams both back. Freshman backs gonna come in, where is Brent gonna fit in??

Pennick that seems to be the issue . I don't have any info on his work ethic. I don't think it really mattered if he cracked the 2-deep this year at WR but they felt he was a good option to move to RB . I say give him some time . Just don't understand no mention in presser.

walk-on Josh Anderson received carries...your saying he is better then Justin Brent?????

I wouldn't read too much into Anderson getting carries on that last drive. It could be he is the 4th back in front of Brent or that the game was in hand and why not give the guy a chance.

BK did say that Anderson understands the pass protections better then most of the backs.

SAL, Good post. I think Josh Anderson may get some more mop up carries just to keep the backs ahead of him healthy.

And Josh Adams looked great yesterday. I remember telling ND35 that Josh Adams half Jockingly that he is going to be a Eric Dickerson clone. Tall and fast with a nose for the endzone.

you think so? I think he stays and gets his ND diploma. But if he does transfer it will be to a S.C. located team.
A talented kid, who looked like a sure star, but so far unfocused.

He could easily start at another school - that can be very tempting.
