Since we're in a period of relative down-time for other topics and both Signing Day and a potential Playoff game are a ways out, I figured this was the time to ask this question.
What do the best S&C coaches do differently that makes their results for the programs they support so much better than the rest of the schools trying to do the same thing? Guys like Scott Cochran at Alabama, Mickey Marotti at Ohio State, and Matt Balis at ND seem to have a profound effect on their teams and I was wondering if it was having different elements as part of their programs the others don't or if they are simply better practitioners of the art. We've read about the problems Maryland had and others where athletes ended up in the hospital because things weren't done properly and I noticed that the programs above don't seem to have the same issues.
While nobody would ask for actual "tricks of the trade", a bit of insight into what the best do better would be interesting and appreciated.
