Welcome back Bob!

How about asst. Def. Coordinator? Failing miserably at U Conn won't open many doors. He'd make bank at ND compared to other places he might land.

I am glad though, that Elko was hired before Diaco was fired... or history may have repeated itself.

I don't know how you can hire one guy to be the DC, then later tell him he's sharing the position.

He'll take a DC job somewhere. He would be an absolute homerun, steal as a linebackers coach, but there are plenty of programs out there that would be lucky to have him as their DC. He's also a tough fit as a position coach because he's not a dynamic recruiter. With the loss of Sanford and Booker, ND needs guys that love to recruit. They made a good hire in Polian, they need to make a second good hire that can both coach and recruit.

In modern college football you need a minimum of 5 coaches that are dynamic recruiters... As of right now ND has Polian, Denson, Elston and Lyght. Denbrock does less now that he's coordinating. They need a 5th guy who will really put in effort and pull 3-4 quality players each year.

I would only want Diaco back as a recruiter. He always had 1 foot out the door. Maybe Kelly can hire him as a field turf analyst since that is the only type of analyst position we don't have.

In 3 seasons at ND only one was good.

At UC his defense was eaten alive game in game out

That would be 0- 1 when it's all said and done, but he defense was what carried the team that season, and the only time coach Diaco had a good defense as DC in his career
