Walker Howard transferring from LSU

He has his current starter returning and a very capable backup as a sophomore. Like most young recruits these days, Howard wasn’t willing to wait a year or two to see the field. Not much any coach can do.

Difficult to say whether or not this is a good or smart move for him. It does certainly appear that as of today LSU's future at the QB position is set, or could be, for the next three seasons, in which case a true frosh like WH might determine that he needs to pursue greener pastures, as much as he'd love to be at LSU. Even though LSU fans seemed to be more concerned that Nuss might be the backup/future starter QB more likely to transfer.

So perhaps when Nuss didn't transfer, and thus signaled that he is content to be the backup for another season behind JD5 before presumably assuming the mantle a year from now and himself be the starter for two seasons.... that's when WH said to himself I gotta go.

However, WH is an LSU legacy, and even when it comes to unsentimental calculations over future playing time, who's to say he wouldn't have beaten out Nuss in the spring of 2024? That's what's surprising. He didn't even give himself a chance. And he's only a true frosh! I think he should wait another year. Or perhaps the legacy aspect of it is overdone, and he really doesn't care all that much about playing for LSU.

All's I can say for someone in his position who's willing to pull up stakes that quickly, is weigh your options very carefully, and make a smart transfer decision. Don't just flutter off to some other SEC program where the QB situation is only marginally more friendly than LSU's....
