Very Concerned About Brian Kelly NFL Future (Giants and Patriots)

I think Kelly will be coaching the Patriots or Giants within the next two seasons. Belichek and or Coghlin will be retiring very very soon and both of those jobs will be opening up and that is exactly what Kelly is waiting for. I am nervous about this.

No worries, I would doubt Kelly is on anyone's shortlist especially if he loses 4+ games again as he did 4 of last 5 years.

I do believe that when Belichick retires kelly will express interest. The native comes home.
That being said, I am not sure Kraft will have interest unless Kelly proves he can consistently be a 10-2 or better coach with a NC under his belt.
Belichick and Brady will go out within a year or so of one another. Likely in the next 2-3 seasons.

Kelly has had what amounts to one great game, in six years. Well maybe two if you count the Music City Bowl. Don't stress over this.

the Giants may show interest; Pats not likely; but there is a Boston connection. It comes down to whether Belicheck has input on his successor. He would be in the Meyer camp. He previously called Meyer the reigning offensive genius. Meyer may give it a go, what is left but a shot at the SB?

Gary Patterson will get the nod before coach Kelly

He understands defense and builds his team around the personnel he has to work with.

Just look how he changed his offense around last season.

A lot of fretting over nothing. If you knew people close to Kelly, you wouldn't have started this thread. He isn't going anywhere. The man will most likely retire when he is ready to step away from ND. That is a few years down the line.

Its a dumb hand wringing post.

1. Neither of those coaches is talked about as truly being on the hot seat or retiring. What he did was pick the two jobs many think Kelly would like to take, but they are two jobs any coach would want. There is nothing there as to why he believes that this is just the opportunity that Kelly has been waiting for to leave ND

2. Kelly had some interest from the NFL after the 2012 year, the degree of that interest is in question. Nothing in the last 2 years suggest their has been interest in him on the NFL level, this could be because NFL owners/gms don't see him as a candidate or because he has told people he is staying at ND.

3. Even if this is true 2 years down the road it is dumb to worry about it. Why not start a thread and say "I am nervous about ND's future in 2018?"

Classic drive by from 25 that gets people worked up

I feel that Kelly has elevated the program and Swarbuck has made the necessary investments in Facilities to compliment the allure of ND, and we will be well positioned to get a great HC when Kelly leaves via retirement or the NFL. I love the storyline of coaches who remain and consistently win at one university until retirement and hope this proves to be Kelly's story as well.

No,no,no,not again. Please Lord give me patience .As they use to say on the old sod,"saints preserve us".Amen.

Kelly is not going to the NFL. Maybe another school but not the NFL.

I find it funny that the big Kelly supporters criticize and demean other posters when they point out Kelly's faults, but when someone mentions him moving on to the NFL, these same people state that no NFL team would want him and then throw out names that will be considered other than Kelly (for instance, I mentioned once that Patterson would be a much better fit for ND than Kelly and got slammed...now I see a poster saying the NFL would take Patterson before Kelly...LOL).

Which one is it? Is he this omnipotent coach or not good enough for the NFL?

It not like he won't be in the mix but Sumlin. Patterson and others will also be there. Heck there isn't even a rumor that his house is listed for sale or he was seen in New York rumor yet.

I think BK is eyeing the pro's, the hiring of Van Gorder an NFL guy and switching to a 4-3 the most common D in the league, will give BK a better understanding of the D.

I think BK is going to tire of battling admissions and players being kicked out of suspended and he'll look elsewhere, question is will any NFL team want a steady 8-4 college guy. Than again The Rutgers coach got an NFL gig.

I don't think he is qualified to be a NFL head coach but that isn't to say that some crappy franchise might try and lure him. No way NYG or the Patriots would come after him.
I am a Pats fan and there has been no indication that Belchick is close to stepping down. The guy was made for the job. He loves the coaching and all that goes with it except the media responsabilities. If he stays healthy I could see him on the sideline for another 6 or 7 years. I think he is about 61 or 62 currently.
I see his replacement coming from somebody who was on his staff. Someone like Billy O'brien or maybe Josh McDaniels but I am just guessing.

According to you he's not even capable of coaching a small high school team.

Or we could just enjoy this season and not worry about what might happen afterwards. Nah, that would make too much sense. Let's focus on how recruiting is going and who might get hurt next.

There is already talk that the person who will be coaching ND two coaches from now in 2026 has had some preliminary discussions with a new NFL owner for a team sale that will happen in 2021 because of the success that he had with recruits from the class of 2027. Now I know this because I heard from a sportswriter who will be at the top of his game in 2025 (ok so he is only in junior high today) who heard from a very reliable source. And by the way, Michael J Fox just returned from the future and told me who will win the 16 team NCAAF playoff in 2024. All I can say is that I didn't see that one coming at all.

yep! blown about by every wind. position de jour!

whatever argument fits the agenda

I don't think Kelly wants to be an OC in the NFL.

Kelly is one of a handful of guys who has proven he can win everywhere he goes. Spurrier, Saban, Harbaugh and Meyer are the others. Spurrier washed out in the NFL, Saban washed out in the NFL. Meyer has admitted he doesn't like NFL Football and doesn't want to Coach in the NFL.

If the NFL is looking it's Jim Harbaugh or Brian Kelly Gary Patterson? LOL!!!! Wasn't he 4-8 in 2013? The only way he gets to the NFL is if he buys a ticket to a Dallas Cowboys game.

Yes he did, but you've also for got to mention coach Patterson went: 13 -0, 11 - 2, 7 - 6, 12 -1 with a BCS Bowl victory

That's a 47 -17 record. Weren't you just comparing coach Kelly's similar record in an other post as a triumph(w/o a major Bowl victory by the way) HUUUMMMM Me thinks you are in love with Brian Kelly

If you feel the need to worry, wait until you believe we have a coach that no one is interested in hiring. The fact that you believe Kelly is at risk means you believe he is a good coach and will be successful. That's not something to worry about. That's something to embrace and enjoy.

Nothing would surprise me. Given the fact that Kelly was on a plane to Philadelphia before they could shut the lights off at the stadium after the NC game, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

And Perse this is why I called this thread dumb. 25+ posts later GD93 is no where in sight. Just wanted to get the board worked up.

You actually think? That's news to me. If you cannot see how running a program like ND would prepare you for the pressures of an NFL job, than running a tiny program like TCU you are even more clueless than I thought, And believe me, I think you put the Clue in Clueless. Why don't you go over to the Kansas board and talk up your hero and master QB developer Charlie Weis? Oh that's right!!!!! He completely failed with Dayne Crist and every other QB and got his big butt FIRED last year. Must of slipped my mind. I hear Charlie Junior is on staff why don't drop him a line and see if he can give you a few tips? On how not to coach football.

Gary Patterson 3 years in Power 5 Conference 29-15 66% Win
Brian Kelly last 3 years at ND 30-10 75% Win

That's why Brian Kelly was speaking to the Eagles and Gary Patterson was speaking to his wife.

Again you twist the narrative florida. I see you left out the 13 - 0 , and 11 - 2 season for TCU (that would be the ( 2 8-5 seasons for the Irish) I will not throw in the Rose Bowl victory either .
Wait I guess I just did sorry.

Now mister HS coach who are you to blast coach Weis? The man has how many Super Bowl rings? Oh yea the players he recruited also helped ND to the best season coach Kelly as seen at ND so far.

Clueless?

Pot meet Kettle!

And Brian Kelly was 34-6 at Cincinnati including a 12-0 in his last year, plus multiple Championships @ Grand Valley State. I'm trying to compare apples to apples cupcake, Is that concept a little to nuanced for you? And are you still giving Charlie Weis credit for those Super Bowl rings? LMAO!!!!!!! I figured the only people left in the world giving his over sized rear end credit would be Charlie, Mrs Weis, his kids and dog. Looks like we have one more loyal delusional cult member.

After Brady Quinn and the rest of Ty Willingham's first two recruiting classes walked out the door, Charlie Weis managed to lose 44 out his next 66 games and get FIRED TWICE in 5 years. But he sure could develop a quarterback!!!!!!

You call TCU a "tiny little program" and them you bring up Cincinnati and GVS. What a freak'en joke. Not that those two programs are but the comparison.

I wasn't giving coach Weis the credit but Tom Brady did along with others.

You lose more credibility with each post

What part of apples to apples do you not understand? Remember when people were telling you to stop eating paint chips as a child? You really should of listened. You are really struggling to comprehend the most basic of topics. I'm beginning to feel sorry for you.

Yawn

Better be careful 'round these parts. BK's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate who is in the know about exactly what BK will do with his own personal future might get a little upset.

Regardless, I'm more than thrilled with the coaching job BK has done to get our Irish to the talent and level they are today and would be proud to have a coach the mighty NFL is trying to pry away.
