USC targeting GM Chad Bowden

Promote Mickens to DC. Promote some kid to Bowden spot. We made the NC. Fans will be content for at least 15 years now. What’s a few seven and five seasons, gonna matter now? The bookstore will be packed.

I actually just said this to a friend. The reality is as good as we think he is it's not like he figured out a way to recruit consistent too 5 classes...
If Chad bowden's role is scouting then it's a big loss. If his role is being the guy responsible for the quality of recruiting classes overall then this might be a blessing in disguise

If he's responsible for both it's a bit of a mixed bag

Bowen was very popular and well-liked by everyone and is a hard worker. But is he really worth the 3x salary he's now going to earn at SC? Is he that irreplaceable? I think not. And it sounds like a desperate move by SC. Is anyone thinking that ND is now going to lose to SC because they have Bowen? At the end of the day it's the HFC that runs the program. Saban lost so many guys at Bama during his tenure and in spite of that consistently won. With a little luck... ND actually finds someone better than Bowen.

I'm sure will hire someone good we went from Parker to Denbrock. I liked Chad seem like a good guy but anybody on here would be crazy not to leave if somebody offered to pay you 3-4 times your annual salary.

Man, I wouldn't move to Southern California for anything. I haven't been out there for more than 30 years and even back then, I said to my friend, who lived there at the time, that it looked like a tinder box.

I am a so. California native, same with my dad, and my entire family lives here. I feel blessed to be raised here, and would never leave.

Dorothy was correct back in 1939.

“There’s no place like home.”

after doing some research on the modern day role of a GM, losing Chad Bowden kind of sucks. he wasn't great in terms of competing for top classes as the guy in charge of the recruiting classes, but his role has a lot of scouting involved and ND has been hitting on a lot of guys with good scouting in the transfer portal and just underrated/overlooked prospects on the recruiting trail. A lot of 3 & 4 star guys at ND who are playing like 4 & high 4 star players instead (good coaching & scouting)

Here's what ai chat bot said on role of modern GM:

The role of a general manager (GM) in college football has evolved significantly in recent years, becoming an increasingly important position within football programs. The primary responsibilities of a college football GM typically include:

Roster Management and Player Acquisition

Recruiting: GMs oversee the recruiting process, evaluating high school talent and managing the program's recruiting database and structure14. They coordinate campus visits and handle the marketing aspects of recruiting, including social media outreach1.Transfer Portal Management: With the rise of the transfer portal, GMs are responsible for identifying and targeting potential transfer students to fill roster gaps45.Player Evaluation: GMs lead the effort in assessing players' skills, potential, and financial value to the team35.

Financial Oversight

NIL and Revenue Sharing: GMs are increasingly involved in managing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) budgets and allocating revenue-sharing funds to players56.Contract Negotiations: As college football becomes more professionalized, GMs are beginning to handle contract negotiations with players and their agents6.

Program Operations

Staff Management: GMs often oversee various departments within the football program, including strength and conditioning, nutrition, analytics, and recruiting staff4.Liaison Role: They serve as a bridge between the football program and the university administration, handling aspects like fundraising, sponsorships, and alumni relations2.

Strategic Planning

Roster Construction: GMs work on long-term roster planning, considering factors like scholarship allocation and positional needs45.Program Vision: They collaborate with the head coach to implement the overall strategic vision for the football program6.

Support for Head Coach

Administrative Buffer: GMs handle many administrative tasks, allowing head coaches to focus on coaching and game preparation34.Player Relations: In some programs, GMs manage player concerns and NIL-related issues, preserving the coach-player relationship6.

This'll make chase happy. Bowden never cracked the top ten in recruiting! Looks like #10 CB Chasten Smith is following him. Hope others don't do the same.
Generally don’t follow recruiting too closely until signing day nears. Verbal commits come and go. Interesting that this verbal would follow the general manager to his next stop. Not the Head coaches, coordinator or position coach. Sign of the times I guess. Follow the $ maybe.

from what I read they paid him 1 mil
So ND was only forking over 350ish ? For one of the most important people on the staff?
He had a huge raise to get to the $300K level. This is not near the top 5 paid, but still upper echelon. Even if ND had countered by doubling his salary, it would pale in comparison to the USC offer of $1M. I believe the $1M is at least $300K higher than any other GM in college football. Crazy level of compensation, but will likely drive all others upward. It will be interesting to see who ND selects.

Who needs a goofy clown that dresses in a referees costume? We need serious players that want to win a championship. Freeman doesn’t need to prove he’s better than Lincoln Riley . He already is.

The football program at Notre Dame is valued at 1.3 billion dollars

If we are losing a super key guy in the front office over six figures in salary then there's a problem in my opinion

I'm hoping the university has another person in mind for the role that they feel maybe even superior to chad Bowden so they let him walk

Your opinion is worthless, thank you very much. Just like your predictions of how bad we would lose in the playoffs. You will get at least 50 more posts out of this though

Let me school you on basic economics. The cost of living in the Los Angeles area is 50% higher than the national average. The cost of living in South Bend is 11% lower than the national average.

All things being equal that $1 million dollar offer from USC is pretty much a wash when comparing cost of living. Anything less than that offer and Bowden would have taken a pay cut to move to LA. You're just TOO STUPID to see that. You're a complete MORON.

Chad Bowden is in his 20's. Any 20-something would take the million dollars per year to go live in or around LA.
