If Chad bowden's role is scouting then it's a big loss. If his role is being the guy responsible for the quality of recruiting classes overall then this might be a blessing in disguise

after doing some research on the modern day role of a GM, losing Chad Bowden kind of sucks. he wasn't great in terms of competing for top classes as the guy in charge of the recruiting classes, but his role has a lot of scouting involved and ND has been hitting on a lot of guys with good scouting in the transfer portal and just underrated/overlooked prospects on the recruiting trail. A lot of 3 & 4 star guys at ND who are playing like 4 & high 4 star players instead (good coaching & scouting)

Generally don’t follow recruiting too closely until signing day nears. Verbal commits come and go. Interesting that this verbal would follow the general manager to his next stop. Not the Head coaches, coordinator or position coach. Sign of the times I guess. Follow the $ maybe.

He had a huge raise to get to the $300K level. This is not near the top 5 paid, but still upper echelon. Even if ND had countered by doubling his salary, it would pale in comparison to the USC offer of $1M. I believe the $1M is at least $300K higher than any other GM in college football. Crazy level of compensation, but will likely drive all others upward. It will be interesting to see who ND selects.

It’s paper, it’s fictitious, it’s not hard dollars, it’s not a budget item

The GM’s job is a budget item.

You can’t spend $ 300,000 or $ 1,000,000 and charge it against $1.3 billion
The $1.3 billion doesn’t exist, it’s not sitting in a reserve fund.

It’s a meaningless number in terms of its impact on the budget.

When you have an organization, one of the biggest problems you face is setting your salary scale and compensating your employees.

If you give one employee and enormous increase, what happens to the compensation scale and pay for all of your other employees ?
