The Athletic had an article on Tyler Buchner this morning. It confirmed what many of us thought, that Buchner was going to skip the spring high school football season in California, and will enroll early at Notre Dame.

A few excerpts from the article follow. Note that the Owens quoted a couple of times is Robbie Owens, who would have been Buchner's head coach at Helix Charter high school. Will Hewlett is a quarterback coach at the Elite-11 camp.

Owens said...“ one thing that pops off the chart right away, he’s as good an athlete as anyone we’ve had. People ask me what he needs to work on. He’s as well-rounded a high school player as you can get.”

Owens can’t make the case for Buchner to stay, either, even if he could guarantee the spring season would happen on time. “If he was my son, he would be leaving early,” Owens said. “I’d love to talk him out of it because I want to coach him and want him to be part of our program, but that’s not who I am. Notre Dame is an elite program and that’s what he needs, that first spring practice there.”

Hewlett said. “Tyler’s athleticism stands out, it really does. He’s as good as anyone out there, and (five-star) Caleb Williams was at the event. Tyler’s very explosive, there’s suddenness to all of his movements.”
