Without Flinchy and Nelson, I think (left to right) it'll be Bars, Hoge, Mustipher, Kraemer, Eichenberg.
My three keys on each side: O- Wimbush, McGlinchey, Mustipher. D- Tillery, D. Hayes, Studstill.
Wimbush, because Wimbush. Quarterback. Nuff' said. Between Steph, ESB, CJ, McKinley, Jones, Claypool, and Finke, dudes will be open. Adams is a stud, with a very deep group behind. I think the combo of Nelson, Kraemer, and Bars will go as far as Glinch and Mustipher's leadership and consistency take them. Glinch and Sam have to lead by example. Please, no more false starts'. A morale killer from a team leader... Crushing. Now, I trust Morgan, Coney, and Tranquil (if he is the Hybrid). Deep group of corners, if healthy. Of the interior lineman, I think Tillery's development (the mental aspect included) becomes the most important factor. Elliott could be a key, but I think Studstill evolving into a reliable on-field coach is more important. The depth at DE terrifies me. Actually, I should say that the pass rush depth terrifies me. Robert Beal was so pivotal to the next class. That's where Daelin Hayes comes in. He MUST be all of the five star player he was predicted to be. He could be the key to it all. I also think Trumbetti will be better on the strong side. On the second units, my three keys: O- Book, Claypool, Hoge. D- Ewell, J. Hayes, D. Morgan. Ian Book is ONE play away. Based on his size and existing sample of play, Claypool could eventually require a starting gig. And I hope Hoge can either push Mustipher into the leadership role he needs to take or overtake him. Plus, he's basically the next man in on the interior. On D, Ewell needs to be a serious shot in the arm for the interior. His might be the only position where an immediate impact player is truly needed (based upon what we currently have committed and on the roster). And Cage's concussion issues would only make this more necessary. Wondering when Jay Hayes' name would come up? I hope his hot fall camp last year was more than a fluke. We need rushers. Plus, his continued development would mean he could pitch in all across the line, lessening the need for Ewell to be a genuine savior. And DJ Morgan. The depth at corner looks good, or at least sizable. A little less so for the safety position. Morgan has the size/speed combo to play FS/SS/Hybrid. Hope he can be a utility guy until his number is called.
If I had to pick a player each side of the ball, most pivotal to the success of the team (which nobody asked me), it would be Wimbush and Tillery. Wimbush for obvious reasons. Cage is a space eater. Not a knock, but a glowing review of the job he's been tasked with. Tillery needs to be a pure disruptor. He obviously has to hold his gaps, stay at home, etc., but I really think that we need him to become more than that. Like a consistent and healthy Jarron Jones. The defense is about to become smaller in stature with Elko's arrival. I think emphasis will be put on outside speed. I really think the pass rush will get better based on Elko's scheme alone. Tranquil and Trumbetti (in my opinion) will replace Onwualu and Rochell. Sacrifice size for speed. That means Cage and Tillery could possibly be relied upon more heavily to occupy blockers and maintain a physical, run-stopping, presence in the middle. Cage is what he is, I believe. Tillery can become more, though. And if he does, our D will thrive.
