the problem is these polls mean nothing. last year i think we were 5 or 6 in the ap and 10th in the 1st playoff committee poll.

Our schedule has been favorable to our ranking, as we are the only team to play and beat 3 power 5 schools. I was worried with the preseason hype and the tv show, that we would have a snake-bitten season. Injuries are proving to be the case, just not with the wins and losses yet.

What has Baylor done to earn a top 5 spot? IMO, ND might see a reverse from what they saw in the first playoff rankings last year ie being ranked higher then the AP or Coaches have them.

Screw the rankings at this point. Only the next game matters. Keep winning and it'll take care of itself

Diehard,
my thoughts exactly ! Keep winning and the polls will take care of themselves.
Loss a few games and drop like a rock.
one game at a time, and we'll see how it plays out ?

Would you rather be 3-0 and ranked 15 or 6. I get that polls Don't mean a lot this early I. The season, but given the choice, I'd rather our team and performance be recognized and elevated. As Cintinually says, has to help recruiting.

I see TCU as being overrated as well. Minnesota has barely beaten Colorado State and Kent State but had a shot at beating TCU late in the game. Also, I don't get Ole Miss rising 12 spots (whooshed past ND) for beating Bama. Sure, it's just week three and it will all work itself out but the rankings will survive without an SEC West team in the top 3.

Only helps recruiting if they don't lay an egg later on. Lets just enjoy the ride and hope they keep winning.

If they lay an egg later on, it doesn't matter either way. In the meantime, has to make a positive impression on the recruits visiting, etc... The better the recruit, the more they are likely to emphasize playing for a winner and a program in the playoff hunt, and we may benefit in the short term, etc... That said, this really isn't a major issue one way or the other, and winning each game as they come will ultimately dictate the most likely final outcome for most.

Coaches work any angle they can recruiting wise - this may not land a high level kid this week or this month but it increases the staffs talking points tremendously

Tex is nice to be talked about and rated highly this early in the season when players are making OVs and setting up thier OVs but highschool recruits look at the end result just like everyone else. Remember last year ND got off to a hot start was rated highly and definetly talked about and then the wheels fell off. The impact the start of the season had was mitigated and probably over shadowed by the end of the season

Sal Purse - same

Being on front cover of Si as a final four participant and ranked 6 in the country is a tad more than being " talked about "

Yes that's the most important part of what I posted. Man I am not even in a disagreement with you I just think it's important ND continues on the trajectory and not have the wheels come off like the blues brothers car. No reason so throw hate but still you do.

Yes Sal, thought we are largely saying the same thing, albeit differently. Let's hope we're all having this discussion after the Stanford game and arguing that absence of a thirteenth game shouldn't move us out of one of the top four slots for the playoffs. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the lofty well deserved perch we currently hold.
