With so many talented visitors coming to see ND this weekend it got me thinking. Are these the shiny new toys, so lets forget about the guys we already have committed? Could any of the visitors make your top 3 on each side of the ball? Here's a cheat sheet from Mike for ya.
My top 3 on offense as of right now:
#1 Joey Tanona - I think he's our overall best player so far. There isn't anything about his game that I don't like. He may end up on the inside, and that's ok, but he can move laterally as well as an OT right now. He has a nice first step, a motor that doesn't stop, and he's always in great balance whether he's on a down block or going out to the second level. I'm wasn't a huge fan of his playing center last year, but if it did one thing for him it helped him use his hands more.
#2 Holden Staes - This was a tough one with #3, but what sets him a part is his speed for the TE position. He's great on a quick out pattern, or on a short curl route where he can box the defender out, but get him the ball with a little space and he can make big plays. He has a great frame and his strides are so effortless that he is going to be a tough matchup for whoever is covering him.
#3 Jadarian Price - Not the biggest, and not the fastest. He reminds me a bit of Dexter where he has that great short speed when he hits the seam, but not elite top end speed. Love the way he cuts, and he runs bigger than his 175lbs. Would love to see him come in between 190 - 195lbs.
My top 3 on defense as of right now:
#1 Tyson Ford - Maybe not as athletic, but more advanced physically than Isaiah Foskey. It doesn't matter if you're in an odd front or even front, he's going to fit in nicely. I think he's athletic enough to set the edge at the next level, and I also see him as that combo of being very good against the pass and the run. Having a big DE like this will make things a lot easier for Freeman when he goes with a smaller lineup.
#2 Nolan Ziegler - Was a 3 star during his season this past year, but who cares, the kid can play. Freeman has to be licking his chops because of his versatility. With his frame and his underappreciated athleticism, you can line him up in a number of spots. His position is going to be OLB in my opinion, but you can set him on the edge, in the box, or he could play as a 3rd safety against some teams. Ziegler has a very good nose for the ball. Any time you can rack up 120 tackles in 9 games, playing a position that was a lot of times away from the ball, then you must be doing something right.
#3 Aiden Gobaira - Length, size and athleticism. Love the way he plays, and a prefect fit for this defense.
So those are my top guys. Lets say all 9 of the visitors commit, who do you have that sneaks into my top 3 and why? Or, just give me your top 3.
