I pretty much took that for granted till Ty+. And generally the weekly polls had ND in there.

Finishing in the top 10 is notable. We were in the top 10 last year and finished 7-5. Being in the top 10 is not notable.
I'm not saying that its a big deal, but the preseason ranking indicates we had a good enough year the previous year and the returning players, coaches, and incoming freshmen warrant a good preseason ranking. You do have to earn it somewhat, but I'd rather see them there at the end of the season than the beginning
Preseason rankings are one of the dumbest things ever to happen in college football. No teams should be ranked until half the season has been played but then the experts would have nothing to talk about. In terms of ND, it may have been an accurate ranking before EG left and all the injuries happened because I could have seen us possibly going 10-2 with a bowl win which is enough for a top 10 ranking at years end. This team can still be a top 20 team but we won't know until after the GT game. Kizer needs to play smart and the offense has to adjust, we will learn nothing about our defense until the Clemson game.

When the Irish were on the front page of Si this yr every recruit in the country saw that and every recruit ND is recruiting in all likelihood now has a copy .

So according to you, if we are ranked #8 or #9 or #10, etc but finish the season #24 or NR, that is OK with you? Either the preseason rankings mean nothing, or Kelly did a poor job of coaching. Which one is it?
