Herman will get plucked from Houston after this year. Hard nose old school coach that has one of the characteristics all great coaches have and what Kelly lacks "leadership".

Sanford is another coach I think would do great.

Sanford has no head coaching experience ????????? That worked well for Charlie Weis and ND in the past.

look, the guy has decades of experience; i suggest Tom Caughlin as an interim coach to work with 'named' Head Coach Sanford who will take over in '18. Caughlin stays as asst HC for 1 year.

This is totally ridiculous, guys. BK isn't going anywhere. 3 games into the season, and you're already having these conversations?

The only problem with this discussion is BK isn't going anywhere unless he wants to go. It might make your soul feel good but BK stays. One or more of his staff might be in jeopardy though.

yep; that was the Weis solution early on; that worked well!

but you are correct. Jack and Kelly are connected. It looks like a sweep is needed.

Jack's not going anywhere either. Both he and BK will decide when they leave. This discussion of a new HC is pointless. A discussion on a new DC is a little more reasonable and something to chew on for the next few months, at least through the Astro Blue Bonnet Bowl or whatever pre-Xmas bowl we play in. I want to so hard believe in a 9-0 run but this defense and all the issues and the disappointment of the OL make it very hard to keep up with the facade.

And we will endure the same results over and over. Just occaisional periods of false hope; then the crash!

I almost believed Kelly was fired after seeing this.

ND needs to restore the rivalry with Purdue. That is the direction of the program and an intra state rivalry might create some excitement.

Wait, I've been told repeatedly there is no one - NO ONE - who can replace the great head coach 8 & 4. So forget it. We are stuck. Until he decides to retire to D2.

No one has ever said that. What we have said is that you should state who it is you think should replace Kelly. You have yet to give us a name.

I disagree with this. Jack has resources far beyond ours to conduct a coaching search. We can spout off names but nobody here has any idea if they have a chance to succeed at ND or their interest level.

I've been saying Shaw for a long time now.

Shaw played at Stanford. You really think he is going to leave his alma mater to come to ND?

TOS

For the second time in three weeks, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly threw his support behind defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.

Kelly faced questions about VanGorder’s job security and his scheme in the days following ND’s 50-47 loss at Texas. The Irish (1-2) fell again Saturday as Michigan State piled on 501 yards of offense in a 36-28 win at Notre Dame Stadium, after which a livid Kelly shifted much of the blame to him and his staff.
