"How could this happen?" "What happened to our D?" "Fire Brian Kelly!"

Simple. They're kids and they're playing like shit. There's a lot going on with exams, colds, fatigue of the season, slump, etc. They peaked early and they're playing shitty as a result. These guys gave a lot in wins against USC, NC State, MSU, etc. All it takes is a handful of guys to let the entire team down. This is what BK meant when he said its hard to do what we're doing. Only 1 team is consistently dominating opponents week after week and that's Bama. Every other team sans Miami (lucky breaks) has had at least one major let down, either getting embarrassed (OSU) or losing to a far inferior opponent (Clemson). Do you really believe Iowa is better than Ohio State? Do you think Syracuse would beat Clemson again? Do you think Oklahoma would lose again? Is NW better than MSU? Go back and check the upsets. It's infuriating how some fans think this is a bad season. If this was the NFL, we might still win the Title. This is why the playoff system sucks. The best team might never even get in due to some crappy regular season play. This is literally the only sport that punishes teams for losing a game or 2 early on. How may Super Bowls would be different had only the 4 teams with the best records had an opportunity?

I expect the Irish to get back to playing good football in the next couple of weeks. It is what it is. It's happened to every team this season except Alabama and Miami. Miami has had some luck this season. That goes a long way. ND had that luck in 2012. Anyone who ever played a college sport understands that it's hard to perform at your best all season. Many athletes have major let downs, even when they're far superior. Played in October and I believe ND beats Miami by 20. It's a long season folks. If you've competed, you get it. If not, keep quiet.

There is a lot of truth to what u say. But a good game plan would have made a game if it despite drops n being flat

Good post. But it's been two weeks in a row now where the defense has looked porous. I don't know if this is a one-time aberration as you're describing. It seems more like a trend. I'm not so sure they can turn it around and become a shut-down defense again. I guess we'll find out.
