It was a heartbreaking loss for sure, given how much we battled back. Team showed a lot of heart, and the experience will make them better.

I hope they are ready to get up off the mat for Keenan Reynolds and Navy. Tough sandwich game between Clemson and SC. This team can still accomplish great things, and with the way other teams are looking, may still have a shot at the playoff.

It doesn't hurt that I have a Cubs postseason game to look forward to this week to take some of the sting off the game!

Navy beat East Carolina by 24 pts. East Carolina lost to Florida by a TD, and beat VA Tech. Navy is 4-0 and Navy is very good.

I agree. I'm sure the players and coaches have already moved on. If not, then Navy can and will beat them.

Last thing: Last season at this same point, Ohio State was ranked lower then ND is ranked right now. Anything can happen with 18-22 year old playing football.

I'm with you on moving past Clemson. I think the better team lost but it is what it is. There's a whole lot of football still to be played and as has been pointed out Navy is no pushover. Win out and let the chips fall where they may.

Totally love this common sense approach. Definitely need more of it on this board.

I agree with this but would add if ND can't handle Navy then USC and Stanford are going to have their way.

I agree time to move on. Rehashing won't change a thing. Clemson won, kudos to them. ND needs to regroup and get ready for Navy. If this Irish team is as good as I think and the senoir leadership is as good as I think, then they need to come out with a vengeance and blow Navy off the field. I'm talking complete beat down. 50 plus points and on D no more than 10 points by Navy. No excuses! ND has players above and beyond what Navy has. I don't give a dam about their stupid out dated triple option. The Irish need to literally manhandle them like rag dolls. I am sick of them and on the field ND should kick the living daylights out of this team. If the Irish come out flat and get into a dog fight with them then they might as well throw in the towel. They should be friggin pissed about how bad they played at Clemson and take it out on Navy. Ok , I'm done ranting but I needed to get that out. I know if the Irish feel like I do , Navy might as well stay on their ship. Dammit time to kick some ass!

Nothing wrong with discussing the Clemson game. Even venting if you must. Hell, we still discuss Tulsa, 2005 USC, and 2014 FSU. I would be willing to discuss 1964 USC if anybody is up for it. I sense much trepidation since the loss going into Navy. From the fans I mean. The confidence meter has slipped a bit and rightly so.

What you describe is an emotion I have not seen from a Notre Dame team in decades. We are almost too nice.

You are 100 percent correct HDK. This respect crap has taken on a life of its own. Fine, I get it, Notre Dame respects Navy and what they stand for. Blah, blah blah. My locker room speech to the team before kick off. " Fu## Navy! They are here to beat you. They would love nothing more than to beat you. Your Notre Dame! Now go the hell out there and crush this team. Respect them afterwards. But during the game they are the enemy and they need to be destroyed. I want to score early and often I want you to hit them as hard as humanly possible. Let them know they have zero chance against you. No prisoners! Let's go!"

You're a tortured soul. Cubs fan too? Yikes!

OSU had/has politics on their side. They also had a conference title game too. Do people think this is going to be the only game CBK bungles all year? Naive.

Most people in here don't think so, but coaching matters. It's why ND is constantly 8-4.

The more I read the news, the more I revert back to my pregame position that this game should have never been played at the time it was played. It should have been moved to 1pm or not played at all and this guy is still talking about about Brian f'n Kelly.... who I can rest assured, was more then prepared to win this game.

11 people were or would die during or after this game.
Many more are missing. We pray that those 11 lost souls don't become 111 lost souls.

My sister, whose Husband is in the Air Force, went home to a destroyed house on Sunday and now can't return to my Mother's home to care for her children.

You sir are the the naive one.

I agree. I have watched Baylor and TCU over the last 2-3 years. They have the mentality of we are going to score how ever many points we want, you try and stop us. Both of these teams play without fear, they play to win and they don't care if they hurt your feelings. . Would love to see ND get some of this attitude.

1964. ND vs USC. Final game of the season for the Irish. No bowl games back then. Irish were undefeated at 9-0 and ranked #1. A win at the Coliseum would guarantee a national championship. It was 4th and 8 from inside the Irish 20. Trojan QB Craig Fertig hit WR Rod Sherman in the end zone with a minute and a half left in the game for a 20-17 win. Fertig never saw the play develop because the great Allan Page floored him just as he released the ball. And as expected, ND was denied a TD earlier in the game by a phantom holding call that film later showed never happened. ND had a Heisman winner that season and almost, should of, could of, had a national title to go with it. I remember that game like it was yesterday.

yup; every season when ND vs USC comes around

'I see that pass play photo, I think that is Carrol standing in the background on the play! That is my most memorable play in all my ND memory! 1 freakin play!'

Perspective check - and this is not directed at you . The internet gives us all a voice - what has become clear to me is that this forum and millions of blogs are littered with gibberish with little to no real value and in many cases pure insanity . Is what it is I suppose -

An example would be a comment I just read on this thread that ND at times plays too nice ( other than the worthless rubbish I read from purse 24 k ) that too nice comment has no basis in fact and is insulting to the players - opponents ,coaches and obviously was written by someone who has no qualifications to judge football .

It's an internet message board, for chrisssake. I happen to think ND has lacked the killer instinct for some time and I have the right to that opinion.

If I may add to this thread. ND does in fact play too nice. It's not a knock on anyone. But no one can deny that do not play with a killer instinct. It has been that way since Holtz left. One of my favorites quotes was before the Michigan game in Ann Arbor. Holtz told the team just before they took the field." It doesn't have to be close". ND was not favored and went on to win. He respected the other team. But make no mistake when they took the field they were going to beat you physically as well as on the score board. This game against Navy will tell you all you need to know. Notre Dame should crush this team. I don't care what dumb excuse people use why ND struggles against Navy. Man for man the Irish are superior at every position. They should come out in a bad mood and bury them. If they don't, and struggle to win or God forbid lose, then the season really is lost. This is where we find out what type of team this really is. I'm betting on a beat down. I am sick of Navy. They ain't nothing! I don't care if anyone agrees or not. I will be extremely disappointed if the Irish don't play well and allow Navy to stay in the game.

what HDK may also be alluding to is that 'the Luck of the Irish' has gone from thinking that during the game that SOMETHING will happen in any game to turn the contest in the Irish's favor, no matter what; but, that is now a matter of holding bated breath that ND won't shot themselves in the foot!

Anyone who knows recruiting knows that ND was the more talented team. The more complete team as well. Home field and the weather were the edge we needed over your Irish. Jmo but I think you're easily the best team we face this year and you can still make the playoff but some things will have to break now in your favor. Also Stanford is maybe the most physical team in the country. You're better than SC imo. I won't be surprised of you're 10-1 when facing Stanford.

As for us, we're a work in progress. Still trying to find a down field threat at WR. Still trying to develop depth and praying we don't get bit by the injury bug (at all).

Finally I think y'all are a pretty classy bunch. The ND fans I met were good folks and reading threads here I have to say our fan base isn't much different than yours.

Good luck the rest of the way.
