Tillery

At 6-foot-6 ½, 308 pounds would he have been the starting RT this year? Was it a mistake to get talked into putting him on the d-line?

I been thinking that forever, I can see a guy like tillery getting drafted and showing up on a pro o-line in a few years.

I don't think so. Our numbers are better on the Oline, and we have struggled to get good hole cloggers on the Dline since big Louie left. I think Tillery on the DL has served us well.

I haven't seen the nasty disposition needed to be an elite DL. Perhaps he finds that mean streak this season?? I think he would be one of the starting five on OL and pretty good.

He has disappointed so far, only in that he seems to have lacked consistent effort and commitment. He has the physical tools and measurables to be a very good defensive lineman. Given all we've read about player commitment and holding each other to account, and the cultural impact of Bilas et al, I think we see a totally different Tillery this season. Yes, I think he was better suited to play tackle on the OL, but we need him a hell of a lot more on the DL, AND he didn't want to play on the OL. I think this was important to his recruitment.

yep; some might recall that a few years ago I posted about the different psychological profile OL vs DL.
I linked several supporting articles/studies. Here it is 3 yrs later and this comes up.

I have seen people suggest that before. My response has always been that he seems to have lapses in his concentration. I have often read that he needs to learn to play with intensity and concentration every play. How does that problem translate to playing RT every play for 70 to 80 plays a game?

Physically he would be great. Right now, I think he lacks the emotional intensity to be good there. Hopefully, this is the year that we see a change.

Intensity starts in the weight room and on the practice field. It will be interesting to see if the new coaches can tap into his potential. Having gone thru the off season and spring practice, they already have a good idea as to what he has/will become.

You're spot on. He would be putting QB's and RB's in jeopardy. He would not last a week on offense with HH as line coach.

Completely disagree. His toughness/physicality isn't the issue.

His commitment to coniditioning and lifting has been an issue, as has his "motor" on an every play basis....but those issues would be just the same on the OL

Hopefully the new S&C staff and the new DC/Scheme can help address that, but we'll see

They are actually much more exposed on the O-line. When you get whipped on a play just about everyone easily sees it.

Tillery showed some nasty disposition during the USC game. But he needs to find it before, instead of after, the whistle.
