You can't be 8-1 ranked third in the nation, fighting for a playoff spot and just get your ass beatdown on national tv...Until this team learns to play like a champion it's a pretender..just no killer instinct..ever..

It’s called being exposed!

Georgia fans saying the same thing. The stage was way too big for this group tonight. I would love to be a fly on the wall when the staff meets tonight or when the captains call a player only meeting. Or even when a few players get together and talk privately, off the record. Would be some insightful chatter to say the least.

This is how it will always be. Start recruiting 5-star basketball players because ND football will always be 8-4.

Didn't Ohio state lay some kind of egg last week?
as long as we have short memory and win next two and play good in bowl it would be OK
if we lay another egg against stanford that would be concerning

Lose by 100 or lose by 1 it's a loss. We are on national TV every week moot point we needed to he humbled, we are a solid top 25 team. Wimbush needs to understand how to slide and throw more consistently for us to be in the championship conversation.

It's called peak. We hit it as did GA. We're good. So is GA. We play Miami week 4 and we murder them. That's sports. Don't understand? Sorry. You aren't an athlete.

peak my ass..you're so damn stupid...great teams peak at championship times..and that was this game..not an athlete..you're a dick..
you know nothing...

The whole “peak” mentality never works for super successful athletes. But I do agree, our team stopped getting better.

Rewatch it.

I heard what he said. You are mad because you lost and overreacting. I'm not criticizing you for being mad about the game, but don't start making this into something it isn't. You're just wrong on this one, sorry.

The posters talking about peaking are correct. Auburn right now would beat any team in the country (even Bama). Peaking routinely happens in the NFL. The Giants for instance both times they beat the pats in the SB peaked at the right time. Bama and the Pats probably the 2 teams least prone to the peaking highs and lows.

More excuses.

Blah blah blah...

I mean no malice with that.

But Jesus Christ it's always some excuse.

Shopping from a different aisle, it's one of those days, teams getting hot,

I mean seriously.

How about the one reason...the most accurate of reasons...

Brian Kelly

No matter what he changed, pissing his pants in big games is cemented to his legacy. Period!!

P.s.
You hear that ignorant arrogant ass say pre game if we can handle the early push in this environment we'll be alright....with a smug little way

Embarrassed!

Don't you need to be at peak pretty much all the time.. as you can only afford to lose maybe one game

Du Lac. You weren't surprised by the 8 points ? We Averaged 41 points a game. The offense was getting better so on Offense were didn't peak week 4... now the D? That's a different story but last nite it was about poor coaching and an embarrassing offensive display. No excuse but the D was put is a bad spot in the first half. Hopefully this team will not tank it because they played well all year.

Did you see Georgia?

Yes I hear this peaking crap all the time until next week when said team (peaking at the right time) gets exposed.. auburn will have it's shot at Bama and I don't think they come unscathed..

You guys weren't ranked in preseason. That's partially why Notre Dame was guaranteed to not be fully legit and likewise the Canes are not as good as the results to date place them.

Everything tends to drift back to the beginning. I can't imagine wagering on college football or basketball without utilizing those awesome preseason ratings. One idiot after another scoffs at those preseason ratings when a highly ranked teams loses. That's stupidity. In Las Vegas my friends and I quickly learned to use them in reverse: wait until later in the season and particularly in bowl games, and default to the preseason rankings when the regular season results have muddied reality. Suddenly there are bargains galore. The teams that have underperformed will play back to their talent level while the frauds can't maintain. Bowl game and NCAA basketball postseason underdogs that were higher rated than their opponent in preseason are absolute gold. One so-called upset after another. But they aren't really upsets at all. Merely the disguised superior team...winning as it should.

I was thrilled when Ohio State lost to Iowa by 31 as 21 point favorite but I would never kid myself toward the Buckeyes' talent level or upper echelon legitimacy. If Ohio State somehow snuck into the playoffs they would be far more dangerous than the currently unbeaten Canes.

Pass defense is always an awesome method to vault up the national ladder, even if your overall talent level doesn't suggest top tier. I mentioned on Friday night that Miami was 4th nationally in yards per attempt allowed while Notre Dame was 20th. Very, very few college teams sustain enough intensity level and actual defensive emphasis to deny the forward pass. In this era you've got one lazy offensive coach after another who thinks it basically doesn't matter, that he'll merely outscore the opponent anyway. That's why it's such easy pickings for Alabama right now. As long as they recruit elite athletes and destroy cheap bubble screens and similar garbage only a handful of teams can hang with them. Contrast to decades ago when one elite program after another had a physical attitude and makeup.

First of all is ND elite? No. Let's see, who is? Alabama, Clemson. That's pretty much it. So everyone else is kind of bunched together. Anybody can basically beat anyone. Look how many great teams have losses. ND had plenty of chances to beat Georgia but didn't. The game last night was their worst game of the year. Miami came out and played with fire. ND came out flat. How does that happen? I don't know. Their 18 to 22 year old kids. Is Miami really that good? No, not in my opinion. Is ND really that bad? No, they are not. It was a perfect storm if your Miami. They played their very best game while ND played their worst. It happens to the best teams. Here's the thing. There is still games to be played. No one is set for a playoff spot yet. Ohio st could get in with 2 losses. Don't laugh. Georgia got smoked, but they could still get in. Miami if they win out , they are in. But maybe they lose next week or the week after. Then what? Are they back if they lose? What if Oklahoma loses again? My point is this. ND losing certainly sucks. Especially since they had a chance to get in the playoff. But it's not the end of the world. It's up to the players to respond. They can win out and win a bowl and end up in the top 5. That's pretty darn good. It's not what they wanted but considering only one team can win the NC, I will take that finish. Remember, everyone in college football wants to be on Alabama's level. No one really is except them. I'm sure no one feels worse than the players and coaches. So instead of us complaining, ( I include myself) maybe let's just support the team and stay positive. The Miami is history, so I'm hoping the team comes out next week and beats Navy. Go Irish!!

This is a pretty accurate assessment of the world of college football.

If Clemson is elite then how in the hell does 3-5 FSU show up in Desth Valley last night more ready to go than ND did at Miami?
