This has been some year. Without accounting for Bowl restrictions or Tie-in Eligibilities, if you could get ANY game match-up for Notre Dame, Who would you select, And Why?

My first thought was for Michigan. But as I thought about it, I think Mich. St. is a little better with coaching edge. Then you get the 2 best RBs in the League going H2H. Kenneth Walker vs. Kyren Williams.

2021 Numbers:

Walker: Att: 228 Yds: 1483 YPG: 148.3 YPA: 6.5 Long: 94 Yds. TDs: 17

Williams: Att: 174 Yds: 872 YPG: 87.2 YPA: 5 Long: 91 Yds. TDs: 10

Kenneth Walker is pretty good. Kyren Williams' numbers are better receiving across the board, but Walker holds overall (combined) better numbers.

That's my reasoning.

I have no opinion, and I've never given less of a shit about bowl games and who we might to play and anything related to effin' bowl games than I do right now.

I do want state what an awesome year this has been. It really has been. Very enjoyable and rewarding...

How about an SEC team? If I had to decide right now and it was my call, let's pick some SEC team. Doesn't matter who, however the season finishes up in terms of the various W/L records, we'll just go with a suitable SEC foe.

Not Kentucky, though. I don't think they're in the running anymore for a top bowl game, but even if they were, no Kentucky.... And no Ole Miss either, even though that is a team we could conceivably get paired up with. Just because F Ole Miss. And they have Lane Kiffin, and some of the haters would truly love that, losing to Ole Miss and Lane Kiffn if that were to happen? They would be like pigs in shit....

So how about Arkansas or Auburn or something. I do not want Michigan or Michigan St. in any case, we can play them anytime we want, just put them on the schedule. Let's play someone new who we would otherwise never play.... But not LSU either we've already played them twice.

What would be classic is if we had to play Bama in a bowl game. If they lose to UGA and are dropped, and we neverthleless get shafted by the committee like so many ND fans are hoping will happen, and then just got destroyed by Bama in a bowl game. That would be poetic justice on some level. Though for the haters, they just want ND to lose, doesn't really matter the circumstances.

I want Bama.

Pretty interesting so far. After only 17 votes, 9 different teams were chosen!

Plus an "Other". That's a pretty great spread of whom we'd like to see from a small sample size!

I would love to hear from those responding as to 'why' you chose your opponent. With such a spread it might make for interesting discussions.

I want Bama because I want revenge and I'm confident we could beat them, finally shifting the mentality (both internally and externally) that ND can't compete with the big boys.

ITA. This year could just be the year we'd topple them. We are rolling (no pun intended) on a pretty high confidence level. Alabama still only has 1-loss, yet seem beatable in a close one with us.

You may make me change my vote to this game. I'm assuming UGA beats them and that's two losses and a moniker of doubt could reside in the Tide.

I love our current recruiting classes in the next two years so that if not this year, we have a very good chance next year or 2023.

And beating Alabama this year would have to improve our ability to grab some kids that we might not have if this were actually to come to fruition.

Exactly, and I think beating Bama is the last little bit of confidence our team needs to finally get that NC.

Oklahoma. Our closest competitor to the next rung on the ladder. Dominate them and take dead aim at the next rung, tOSU.

After a really weird first 3 weeks, this season has turned out to be a lot of fun.

Agree. From basically a new OL instilling 3 frosh LTs, and assorted combos, to 3 QBs; 2 of them brand new, new DC with new defenses. We had one stale game but I grew more impressed with the Oline gelling once Correll got benched (most understand that every new Oline needs time for that to come together) and basically out of desperation, they found a very good combo, currently. Next year I want to see Tonona at RT, Spindler RG, Kristofic LG, Fisher LT, and figure out the Center. Freshmen have been given a chance to play a lot more than "Early Kelly era" and I love that.

So yea, fun how it's turned out for sure. Honestly, I was thinking 9-3, 10-2 at best with all that newness, so my expectations are already exceeded this year.

Rees seems to be making it work, Quinn needed the time for his group and they seem to mature faster than expected, but for sure, still a work in progress for those coaches. Freeman, too, still adjusting to his players and surroundings. We need to cut him some slack, too. Stupidly, guys like Gertrude Nasty, want his head already. But I think we are going to very much enjoy the next 3-4 years.

The Ohio State fan forum asked the same question. Who would they like to play in a bowl game if the Buckeyes stumble against Michigan State or Michigan? The majority of respondents want the Irish.
They want us because they really don’t like us. Comments ranged from, “I just hate them”, to “we need to bury them”, and my favorite, “put them in their place.”

My "other" vote was for Cincinnati. That game was a travesty and not a true reflection of the relative INHERENT strength of the two teams.

ND hadn't worked out its line kinks, had THREE critical turnovers, came out flat and looked PSYCHED OUT from the get-go. ND now is a more developed team and playing with a greater degree of confidence.

While beating Cincinnati wouldn't remove the blemish of losing to them, it would atone for the insult.

Rematch Cincinnati, I think ND handles them convincingly in a second match up. Our OL is light years better since week 4.

it’s not exciting but we could avenge our only blemish.

I picked Oregon because we never get to play them. They were the hip new thing for so long and everyone was told to copy them. It would help the program if we made duck stew.

I think the PC seeds the bowls and they try to avoid rematches.

Oregon is making a push in the poll. I'm kind of surprised. Moved into 2nd place on this penultimate Saturday morning.

haha no doubt. They know we hate them, too I hate them more than Michigan. Herbstreit alone makes that so. Then throw in the fans are arrogant and obnoxious.

I'm already annoyed that we open with them next year at the shoe. I would much rather play them late, and they wouldn't want us late with the way they schedule best for last in conference play, so to get them near the top early, with a good record and then playing the tough part of their schedule. Add us in that latter 3rd of the season and they'd go crying to mommy.

Brian Kelly better bring it to the team that the first game is the season for ND. No other way around it. We get Clemson as the only way to atone for an early loss, and no Conf. Championship. He better make them understand we need that much more than they do. And WE OWE THEM A BIG MFing ASS KICKING!

Yea, I hate them.

And look what it did for Oregon this year! They hold their destiny this late because of that win.

"Next year I want to see Tonona at RT, Spindler RG, Kristofic LG, Fisher LT, and figure out the Center."

Are you crazy? Alt has played lights out for us! He's a Freshman AA. Gonna be a four year starter and a first rounder.

Thata the dumbest lineup

lol. If you "think" that, then I know I'm right about it.
Yeah Tanona starting at RT. Brilliant!

We're recruiting him at guard smart guy

And to not have Alt in the lineup when hes our 2nd best lineman right now.

One of the dumber things Ive seen. Congrats weis guy

I'm VERY happy with the progress of Alt. But I wouldn't say his play is, "Light out." You are calling him an AA already. That to me is more crazy than wanting to see Tanona in the mix next year. I say let them battle it out. I love Tanona's tapes. Hell, I'm lovin a lot of these guys we've been getting to commit.

Awww you think you finally found something to attack with. You know next to nothing. Always just a snowflake with no original thought in 3 years. Go mount your pillow.

You are a true moron. I enjoy it.

You belong in the same category as Pat and savvy. Congrats you're officially in the Top 3

Probably the first time in your life you've been top 3 in anything

You of course delight in your own miserableness. You never give original thought to threads because you are too inept at thinking. I don't enjoy that, I find you a sad pathetic character on this board. Just tear down and give no original thought. It's so much easier to lash out at others' thoughts.

I started this thread in a good and lighthearted spirit for ND fans, yet you are only looking to threads like this to torpedo in your arrogant negativity and hopes that it gets locked because I started this thread. You are so envious of me it kills you that I'm so much smarter about all sports.

And btw, I bet I've won more championships in sports than you are years aged. God Bless.

You're a legend in your own mind.

Tanona starting at a position hes not even going to play

Original thought doesnt make it a smart one

Oregon has the best win, Cincinnati has the 2nd best win.

anOSU has the best loss and we have the 2nd best loss

If you want ND to make the playoff, then you should be thanking the conference dumbassery and greed. Both Oregon and Oklahoma(s) will have to play a big end of the year game and then play rematch in December. Irish double agents couldn't have designed a better plot to give the top contenders a 2nd loss.

I'm not a legend nor did I ever say I was, but I know football a lot better than you do. You and your gf Gert still think that Lewis is bad. Screw the actual tapes of him showing clearly that he's the best CB they have, AND, the last and current DCs obviously see that as well because he's been the starting field CB for most of his time here. I can't help that you can't see that. And that alone tells me all I need to know about your ability (lack thereof) to evaluate talent.

When Tanona committed, his HS tape showed him as a very good 4* OT. I think he should be a 5*. So, because you heard that he was recruited as a guard, of course he's going to be a guard, right? Maybe the coaches think so highly of him they want him to see the field next year and because Fisher and probably Alt will be at tackle, they want him to accept that idea so he can see the field next year - at OG - because he's that good! I would be okay with that because I saw his talent as a junior (on tape). He's going to be a masher. If that means he plays at RG his first season, fine with me. I want to see him on the field next year. I would also like to see Spindler get the opportunity to show what he can do, although I didn't see his game film. But by his ranking and gene pool, and now a year in the system, he's got a good chance to be very good, I would assume.

You want to be negative because you are a negative person. Fine. That's very clear. But most negative people are not that smart. The less intelligent have just your behavior. Negative On Tilde!

Yeah I'm negative because I don't think Tanona is a starter next year. Smart guy

Alt
Kristofic
Patterson
Spindler
Blake

Is there a high likelihood Patterson returns?

That would be a massive “win” in my book. For whatever that’s worth….
