Still almost a year before signing day. Not all passengers ever stay on the bus to the end, keep recruiting and over sign by at least 4 players.

The bus may be filling up fast -- but February 2018 is a LONG WAY AWAY -- it is not a matter of who is on the bus as it leaves the station -- but who is on the bus when it arrives at ND on signing day !

Still tons of room. Probably 9-11 spots, and that's before possible transfers, medical school, etc, etc...

At the conclusion of the spring I'd love to see about 3-4 players on the defensive roster that I don't see playing a major role in Elko's scheme, transferring somewhere else where they may have more opportunity. That would do the following. 1. Open more spots in the recruiting class. 2. Allow ND to take to invite back more 5th years in 2018. 3. Allow the potential for a grad transfer, or two, in 2018.

I don't think it's going to happen, but I would kill to add Scott Pagano as a grad transfer this year. Man that would be a huge addition to our DT rotation and would enable the coaches to bring Ewell along much slower and with limited, effective, first year reps.

Ideally for me, ND would bring in a class of about 22 recruits, bring back 5 fifth years and add a key grad transfer at a position of need.

Do you think this is a possibility, or just wishful thinking?

Per the article from last week, he had 32 schools contact him almost immediately and there's no real connection to UND. It also stated it would be a potentially great fit for us (he could likely start or at a minimum get plenty of game action) and seemingly meets his needs/desires.

Wishful thinking. I think he ends up at a better program, with a better shot of playing for the title, but I hope I'm wrong.

Manti needs to get on the phone! (But I'm thinking SP is USC.)

ND made his top 7, from his list over 40 suitors (including basically every top program in the country)... Call, Oregon, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma among the others in the mix. He's going to take official visits to most, if not all, of his finalists, then make a decision and enroll in may.

Man it would be massive to land him. The kid had 93 tackles last year at Clemson. He'd start immediately at ND. The kid is getting himself ready for the draft. Wilkins and Lawrence were going to be the starters at Clemson, so he's looking for a landing spot where he'll start right away... That would definitely be the case at ND, where he'd play over either Cage or Tillery and would combine with the pair to give Mike Elko a nice 3-man rotation in the middle, who Dew-Treadway and Ewell working to get themselves in the mix.

Good news! At least hopeful. He would be a big big piece of the puzzle for the Irish! Come to our lady kid! You'll get all kinds of exposure and pick up a degree from the best biz school in the country, just in case.

Only negative I saw was in Sweeney's comment that Pagano would like to play his last year on the West Coast. Let's get hm on campus, work our magic and try to convince him otherwise.

These kids gave verbals after the craptastic last season. I think we keep hold of these kids.

What would a realistic 21 man class look like to you guys right now? It's hard for me to assume ND will take more than 21 until we see about the transfer situstion, injuries and how ND will come up with the rest of the scholarships.

Despite the really hot recruiting start, even if ND were to win 9 or 10 games, I just can't see ND holding this type of pace for an entire class... I would, however, be pretty pumped about a class that looked something like....

QB: Phil Jurkovec
RB: Markese Stepp
WR: Braden Lenzy
WR: Micah Jones
WR: Kevin Austin Jr
TE: Jeremy Ruckert
OL: Cole Mabry
OL: Ryan Hayes
OL: John Dirksen
SDE: Justin Ademilola
SDE: Malik Vann
WDE: John Wagonner
DT: Jayson Ademilola
NG: PJ Mustipher
Mike: Bo Bauer
Buck: Ovie Oghoufo
Rover: Alan Tisdale
CB: Kalon Gervin
CB: Houston Griffith
S: Shayne Simon
S: Derrik Allen

For a point of reference, as they are currently ranked, when plugged into the composite class calculator on 247, the above class would finish with a composite score of 268.83, which would have been good for 8th this past year. Notre Dame's 11th ranked 2017 class had a composite ranking of 249.17. It's also worth noting that the mock class I listed above only has 21 recruits in it. Of the top 10 classes in the 2017 composite, only Ohio State (21 recruits) had the same or fewer number of recruits as the 2018 ND class I'm projecting. The other top 10 classes all had 24 or more recruits and those additional 3 recruits provide points to the class and speak to the depth of the class, but not always to the top end quality.

IIO, the class you drew up may not have a lot of 5* power but it would be a great class. It would meet many of the needs for this recruiting cycle. Defensively, you couldn't ask for much more. I would be really happy to land Griffith and Mustipher.

Could be wishful thinking, but I read where he has scheduled a visit to ND.....

Yep. Would love to land him. Would be an impact player for ND in 2017, at a position ND definitely needs help. Would be a huge coup for Elko and would help substantially when it comes to implementing the new scheme. Giving Ewell and Amosa-Tagavailoa a full year to prepare to play big minutes would be awesome as well. Ewell is pretty physically ready. He'll be among the strongest players in the program walking through the door. He could use some work in the skill development department, however.
