The potential negative impact of the NCAA settlement

Many schools athletic departments, even those in the super conferences are operating in the red, and will be unable to pay for athletes. I can see some schools eventually folding up their athletics and moving on.

The athletic departments operate in the red because they use the sports that make mega profit to keep the other sports afloat that aren't profitable.

And they operate in the red because even though the non football and non basketball sports doesn't produce direct profit it's a small cost to pay to promote the popularity/prestige/notoriety of the university.

So what are you saying, they should eliminate the non profitable sports?

Regarding it being a small cost to pay for prestige and notoriety, that's a complete myth considering approximately 22% of the population are avid college football fans. If you are targeting a mere 22% of the population, that's a poor business model. Promoting education and academics is far more prestigious than sports. You have your priorities backwards.
