It's a long shot but i think ND and Texas have the pull to do someting like that. You play tge 7 schools in your division and 3 from the other division leaving 2 other teams to fill out your schedule. Giving ND and all the other teams nation schedules. Just a thought. Make up your own 16 team conferance

Be a fun season. No one would ever win a title. They would all be multiple loss teams with 1/2 their starters injured for the season.

But it would be fun watching it.

Call it the 'all blast, no cash' conference, since all the olympic sports would be broke from travel expenses.

Back when there were still a bunch of strong indies ND might have been able to pull something together, but it would have been a primarily Eastern conference. ND, Penn State, FSU, Miami, VTech, Pitt, BC, West Virginia, Louisville and maybe a couple of small fry (Navy, East Carolina?) to round things out. But that ship sailed 25 years ago.

Every conference needs doormats or the conference would eat itself alive. College Football needs FBS cupcakes.

Considering there is only a 4 team playoff,tyour statement is accurate.

But in reality this is a bad idea. Independent status should be looked at with envy.

It would be hard to pull teams in P-5 conferences since ND and UT have their own TV packages and would likely not want to share with the rest. Not saying something like this can't be done but the $$$ would have to be there first for the others to commit.
