Ed Sullivan cancelled six future appearances after they included the word "higher" in their performance of "Light My Fire".

Yep. Morrison's rebellious attitude took him right to an early grave. The Stones looked at the big picture and conformed to Ed Sullivan's demands on lyrics and , last I heard, they went on to a stellar career.

Brian Jones was another member of the "27 club."
Yep, he is an esteemed member of that unfortunate club. The co- daddy of the song, "Let's Spend The Night", was Mick Jagger, and he was the one who worked the compromise with Ed Sullivan, though, he and his mates were definitely not happy about it. BTW: a quick check shows Hendrix, Joplin, Winehouse, and Cobain as other members of the "27" club.

It's funny. When you look back now, probably very few remember Ed Sullivan. But he was a really big deal back in the day.

I watched it as a youth even before The Beatles made their appearance on the show. It was like Sunday night must see TV at the time.

Although, PBS does have a show that plays the many rock acts that were on the Sullivan show and maybe the younger people know who Ed is from PBS shows like that. In my area, we have multiple PBS stations and it seems like it is playing often enough.

Most people don't know who Ed Sullivan is and those that do don't care about him but people from all over the World still visit the Lizard Kings grave.

Ed Sullivan was average tv personality. Jim Morrison was a artistic genius.

The Ed Sullivan Show was on for 23 years. He brought The Beatles to America . I'm not sure they even knew who Ed was at first. Ed had no discernible talent. That's correct, but, he knew who had the talent and he was smart enough to have them on his show, week after week. The great comedians, Broadway stars, campy acts, and of course, the rock acts of the time. You don't last 23 years because you don't know what you're doing. The young people of today are set on year zero, so no, they have no clue who Ed Sullivan is.

From books I've read on the Doors, they got blown on a pretty consistent basis.
