I am so excited to come see the ND campus and the tradition of ND Football when Texas plays in Southbend. Looking for advice on what to do on gameday?

What is the tailgating scene like ? Will I be able to walk around campus with a small cooler? Ive got a friend who does not have a ticket to the game and plans on watching from somewhere nearby, and advice on where to go ?

I have both Texas and Notre Dame alumni in my family, and we are just wanting to have a great experience with another school that has pride and tradition like my horns. Thanks for all advice.

Well I hope you enjoy your time up here! And yes you will be able to walk around campus. Great site to start with is 'Game Day' should help you with time table and such.

Is your marching band making the trip up?

Very big tailgating scene. The Joyce lot is, IMHO, the best of all the tailgating, but you will find fun everywhere from White Field, the furthest away, to Stadium, the closest one. Check out the parking map on the ND web site. I would advise wearing Texas garb in the lots. It will get you lots of free food and drink.

Yes, you can walk all over campus with a small cooler.

If it were me, I'd watch the game in Brothers in Eddy Commons, right across Angela from the Joyce lot. But there are several options close by.

Patterson cut that trip for the full band. They their Pep band going only. I know that the full band is only making one or two road trips in state because of "budget concerns"... UT fans are not happy about that.

Will my buddy have to dump the cooler prior to going in anywhere to watch the game? No problem, we plan on having an inexpensive one for this situation. However would be great if there is a spot he could watch the game and drink his own beer! Any?

There will be people in the tailgating parking lots watching the game on TV. As long as he's not obnoxious, I am sure many would welcome him......and his beer.

Tailgating once the game begins is not allowed. I am sure some will say they beat the system and partied all through the game and maybe yes they beat "the man" and maybe it's BS. I'm in the stadium so I really don't have any idea what is going on outside. There is Game Day Security, NDPD, SBPD, ST Joe County, and undercover Indiana Excise strolling along, from lot to lot. In The Joyce, there are large screens set up to watch the game with booze to purchase. I hope my contribution helps. See ya there.

So which lots are the "tailgating lots" that allow tailgating during the game? It was my understanding no tailgating was allowed anywhere on campus after kickoff?

You guys have been very helpful. My buddy does plan on going to Joyce center but In case he needs to finish his beer prior to going in Just wanted other options.

There is no tailgating during the game on Campus parking lots. If you park across the street on Twyckenham you can tailgate and watch the game there.
Your friend can likely grab a ticket closer to game time for a little more or less than face value.

Other options to watch close by are The Linebacker or Brothers.

I never knew that. I am enlightened. I've never been there and not been in the game.

Other options: St. Mary's College, Holy Cross College and the old St. Joe High School parking lots, all of which are on the west side of highway 31.
