Texas vs TCU - Texas had 6 turnovers and was down 20-3 heading into the fourth qtr

Yds gained - Texas 298 TCU 368

They beat OK ST holding OK St to 198 total yds

Ark game Texas gave up 368 yds of total offense

Last nite ND picked up 521 yds of total offense w a first yr starting QB a third and fourth team RB and Texas had the benefit of the services of a potential 1st rd NFL LB in FR Jefferson . Zaire had a 250.6 QB rating .

Texas clearly is not a great football team right now but they have a ton of talent - in the last four recruiting classes 2012 -2015 Texas has 46 four and five star recruits . ND has 51 .

Beating Texas in and of itself may not be impressive but the lopsided fashion in which it happened certainly is .

Texas had 168 yds of total offense w no turnovers - Kelly is undefeated at ND when his teams have not turned the ball over .

There's no doubt the O-Line had a big day, but ND didn't play last season UT though, and UT didn't play last season's ND.

It was a very impressive performance for the ND offensive. It's hard to tell how well our defense will perform this year based on that game though. Texas' QB and Oline will likely be one of the weakest ND plays all season. My optimism is up though.

The UT defense played a decent game, IMO. UT's offense was abysmal and could not sustain drives which led to their defense not really having a chance against a high-powered ND offense.

HR -- I shared this with IIO a while ago . I think our front seven on defense ( IF IT STAYS HEALTHY ) will be a significant team strength . Rochelle Day Tillery Cage are serious players they are to a man strong physical guys who can all hold the point of attack vs the run . With Tranquill and Smith rushing the QB out of various blitz packages and using various stunts they will provide the necessary pressure to protect our secondary all season long . Smith is quite literally our Lawrence Taylor - when he is cut loose the opposing QB knows he has 2 seconds and than he's toast .

Good post using empiricism rather than anecdote and cliches. It is very difficult to defeat a power 5 team that thoroughly (nearly +400 in total yards). UT's QB situation is dire, but there was talent all over the place at other positions out there for the Longhorns.

Very good win.

Yeah I don't disagree with any of this. Obviously I wish we had a legit pass rushing DE in the mold of Aaron Lynch and a true run stuffing Mike like we had with Teo but you're right: ND's front seven is serviceable. It becomes elite a few things happen: Day stays healthy. His quick twitch moves on the snap make him the legit pass rush ND desperately needs. Rochelle developes a move or two. Right not 95% bull rush. That's fine against a lot of lineman but it won't work against the better teams ND will play. ND's secondary proves that they can prevent chunk plays when Jaylon is brought on blitzes. I think that's really what is preventing BVG and company from fully unleashing Smith. That and because he's so good in coverage. He really is the prototypical Drop LB but yeah, you're right: his 8 yard burst is better then other front seven defender in CF. It's really a disservice that he isn't allowed to rush the QB 15-20 times a game. We need Max and Company to prove they can be trusted before expose they corners by bringing so much pressure.
