Okay...... whewwwwwww...... that was rough, but immediately drank a few IPA's after the game and I am feeling good once again. Here is how I see it and you guys can tell me where I am wrong and right.
1) Our offensive line is terrible. This is not Coan's fault. He has no time to throw the ball, and unlike last year it is not an issue of the receivers not getting open. The offensive line is simply not giving Coan time to throw the ball. I thought bringing in Buchner was a good idea, but not because Coan was bad but because his skill sets were much more in line with what our offensive line could do. But plain downright embarrassing that our offensive line got thrown around by a MAC team. They are young and inexperienced so let's hope that is the problem and they improve as the year goes on and of course we are in big trouble with injuries too.
2) Sorry, but I am not a fan of Freeman's defense. I believe that type of aggressive defense is great when you are at a place with very little talent. But I am much more in favor of a defense that makes you put together 6 or 7 first downs to score a touchdown, especially when your defense is better than their offense. I'll take Lea back in a second, this defense is starting to give me nightmares of BVG, however, I am going to hope for the best and let's wait for a couple big games to see how they perform.
3) I get all the attention on Michael Mayer, but Kevin Austin is legit too. Dude makes some really tough catches. I really like him. That catch with under a minute left won the game, and I thought that drive showed what Coan could do if given time. Toledo should have put more pressure on that drive.
4) I hear all the talk about Tommy Rees and sorry I don't see it. I like his play calling, but if the offensive line is terrible well, you are going to have problems. He has called some big plays for this offense. The two big screens in the first two games and that 2 point conversion were good plays that a lot of you are forgetting about.
5) For the life of me, has a coach as good as Brian Kelly has said, "Fvck it" when it comes to special teams. I mean he just doesn't give a shit about special teams. Don't forget how many games we won on special teams with Lou Holtz.
By the way there is an app on andriod phones called "dofustream ncaaf". You can find it play store by name or typing in watch college football for free. It has every college football game on there and you can broadcast the game from your phone to TV with smartcast or many other options on your TV and watch any game you want in the country without have to buy any of these stupid channels. I watched the ND game today with no problems without having to buy Peacock. It sucks and lags if you try to watch games when you are away from home, but on your home wifi it is great.
