Long time member of II / B&G but haven't posted in almost a year. I've been lurking on the board this season and decided to give you guys my worthless $.02.

What do Harbaugh, Meyer, Saban, and Pete Carroll have in common? They are great motivators at the college level. Who was the last great motivator at ND, and how successful was he? I don't need to answer, you already know.

The only time I have ever seen Kelly being a great motivator was prior to (or halftime - I don't recall) the Michigan St. game during the 12-0 season. Where did that guy go? And to be honest, I thought that speech was somewhat forced, albeit effective. When Holtz said 'save Jimmy Johnson's ass for me' - he meant it.

We lack a killer instinct, we lack emotion, and the comes from the Head Football Coach. Kelly's diatribe about the 'lack of fun' the players were showing could have been easily solved by him looking squarely in the mirror. I see zero fun from Kelly. Zero emotion except when a player makes a mistake.

We also lack a killer instinct from the administration, period. Michigan just beat Rutgers 78-0, do you think ND would ever do this?? No. Because we are too damn nice. We don't want to embarass the other team. I could count at least 30 times since Holtz that we have been in a position to pile it on, but we don't, why? This allows the kids (18/22 yr olds) an opportunity to develop a killer instinct, a nasty disposition, the confidence to beat an Alabama, an Ohio State, but no we are too nice. And we have never developed this in our program. So when we are up 36-0 in the third qtr I know the game will end 36-13, it always has, for the last 20 something years. Where is this directive coming from??

Jerry Tillery finally showed some nastiness on the DL - and it only took 3 years. And that's why he was regarded as an OL, and that's where he should be. He would easily be the best left tackle in the nation. We need attitude like Lynch, Teo, Zbikowski - you know - football players that enjoy knocking the snot out of the guy across from them. It's also how you pick up 1 yard for a first down.

Kelly told Swarbrick seven years ago that we would have a football team that resembled that of the nasty Stanford team that Harbaugh left behind; seven years later, how close are we to that goal? Two years in at Michigan how close is Harbaugh to that goal?

If Harry Heistand was driving a concrete paver he couldn't RUN OVER a f'in marshmellow. He can teach pass blocking though. F*ck the zone read, how about we just knock the hell out of the man across the line of scrimmage and move him where we want?? We need technique, angles, and trickery to whip a Duke DL?? Give me a break.

What exactly does Booker do on the sidelines? What does he do at practice? Who has he recruited?

When is Kelly going to leave his comfort zone and bring in a coach from outside his coaching tree? Saban does this, Harbaugh does this, Carroll does this, Meyer does this. Kelly is soft.

Kizer and Zaire was a debacle, but I assume he wanted to avoid another transfer situation similar to Golson (grad transfer). The team didn't have an identity or a game-plan and knowing who your QB is allows for this.

We do not have the horses on the DL, and they ain't in this years recruiting class either. It's going to get real real nasty against Harbaugh and Michigan in a few years. Really nasty. And they aren't stopping at 31-0.

This weekend will be very very telling for both ND and Stanford. The coach who loses this weekend, will not be coaching the same team in 2018. Both have earned a 2017 season, even though in ND's case they have shit the bed against every quality opponent sans @Oklahoma in 2012.

Kelly will not win a national title at ND, he will not win a playoff game, but he might get lucky and when a New Year 6 bowl against a G5 school, that's it.

Schiano is the only name I've heard so far that is intriguing. Perhaps a Diaco / Sanford combo but what have either of those guys really proven? Herman, maybe, but we aren't going to outbid USC, Texas, etc., and the ND admin will trip over their own feet. Maybe Randy Edsall is still on the short list - lol.

I love ND, but I've seen this movie before, and I hate the ending.

A little harsh ,but a lot of truth in there, particularly re Motivation. N.D. has really been like an elite Prep school playing against public school opposition. The attitude that is necessary to play winning big boy football seems to be lacking. I disagree re Harry Hiestand. The culture is not one that can be changed at the assistant level it needs to come from the top. Joe Moore would not have been successful under Ty Willingham.

Solid post...'bama has no less then 3 guys with cfb HC experience on staff.
The arms race is on and we've brought a pea shooter to it. Check this Youtube and watch how these Fr handle southern cal All Americans....pay particular attention to FR Luther Bradley knocking Sr AA Lynn Swann out of his helmet. Watch what he does to Swann when Swann tries to retrieve it.
It's an awesome display of intimidation.

Right now this team is in shambles do to extremely poor leadership and skills of the HC. He is not a sympathetic figure. He is a total jackass.
Our sissy of a coach excuse of the day is now blaming our youth....inexperience....
He seems to forget that he put together the roster....
The fact is that teams are a reflection of the coach. That really really sucks for us.

I don't need you to run through a wall son, I just need you to whip the man across the line of scrimmage from you. Not two men, not three men, just ONE man. If you can't do that, you ain't eatin' tonight, because you ain't hungry, and I'm gonna make sure you're hungry tomorrow.

Yesterday's game was two horrible teams attempting to win but finding ways to lose, and we found more ways to lose than them.

Anytime 'manufactured' excitement is needed - you in trouble.

Watching the post-game presser, I felt bad for Kelly. Man he sure seems/seemed like he wants/wanted it!

But then I thought back to the Alabama game and got pissed.

The man I saw last night in the post-game presser was not the same man interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles. Imagine how much prep work he put into that meeting? Prep work that could have been spent on Alabama. When asked at halftime what could be done differently to bring the game back from 35-0, his response was along the lines of ‘Alabama staying in the locker room’. His answer should have been "next time I'm in a position to win a title for Our Lady I will focus on her team and her team only."

I also thought back a few weeks ago, another post-game presser, when he was espousing how ‘great ND was’, that the players needed to realize how lucky they were to be playing for Our Lady. Again, where was this espousal leading up to the Alabama game? How much time did he spend breaking down Philadelphia’s roster, crafting his pitch to the owner, considering every angle – how he would transition from 12 to 16 games, etc. etc. That isn’t a meeting you walk into with a blank pad and pen. That’s a meeting you walk into with a plan.

Where was the ND plan that night in South Beach Coach Kelly?

Notre Dame won’t do it, but they should cut bait right now heading into the bye week. Allow whatever interim coach the time to prepare the team for Miami and start searching for the next coach.

I have said it for years the man is a non motivator. I don't understand how people stayed with Kelly so long.
