College football update.
Notre Dame beats 14th ranked Georgia Tech and shuts down their vaunted triple option. Georgia Tech destroyed Mississippi State 45 to 30 in last years Orange bowl.
The Irish have lost 8 starters since August.
The replacements have been equal or better.
It just goes to show you what a GREAT job of recruiting Coach Brian Kelly has done since he has been at Notre Dame. ...
He honed his craft recruiting diamonds in the rough while at Central Michigan, Cincinatti and a division two team he coached at.
Coach Kelly is the one who recruited a 2 star player while at Central Michigan that nobody offered but Coach Kelly.
You may know him JJ WATT !!

In other games:

Alabama lost.
Auburn lost.
South Carolina lost.
Arkansas lost.
Kentucky lost.
Missouri needed a miracle to beat weak UCONN.

And Notre Dame is not the only team with the injury bug. Many top teams are losing star players left and right including quarterbacks.
That is why recruiting is so important. And nobody recruits great players like Notre Dame !

Eight?

Golson
Bryant
Jones
Zaire
Folston
Smythe

I count six plus part time or nickel starters Coleman and Tranquill. All eight of those guys are done for the year or at other schools.

Lost for a portion of the season - Sebastian and Redfield. Am I missing anyone?

Damn your picky !! I picked 8 out of the hat for an estimate and I was spot on! Tranquill and Coleman would have been starters in certain games--so they are starters !!
You must hate perfection !

additional week 3 observations.

USC lost too! (sorry beach but they did)
Ohio State,Florida state, Oklahoma, and Clemson all won but all looked only so so could say the same about TCU....

the only unbeaten in the Pac 10 with any sort of shot at the playoff is UCLA

the only team that scares me in the SEC at the moment is Georgia

this early season it seems there is a lot of parity in College football

Purdue at the bottom at 1-2 with only win being over a bowl subdivision team...and that might not change all year.

As for the Big 10 Indiana, Iowa and Northwestern are among the unbeaten with MSU OSU

Bodi, I agree with you that BK has recruited very well. That said, what sets him apart from previous coaches at ND is the player development IMO. He and the staff do a great job of developing the players and getting them into positions that fit their talent (Russell, Prosise, etc.).

When will some realize the only two coaches who are arguably better than Kelly in CFB are Saban, who would never fit at ND and Meyer, who had his chance and was turned down because of academic stipulations ND would never agree to.

Kelly, even with the inability to attract most of the top players, has been excellent and will see even better days ahead.

I predict Notre Dame to beat LSU in the National Championship game.
They are the two best teams in college football.
Notre Dame will hold Leonard Fournette to under 275 yards rushing and beat them 41 to 27. A classic game. One for the ages because of all the future NFL hall of famers on both teams.

Bodi, a rematch between ND and LSU in this year's championship bowl series would cause me to miss a few weeks of sleep from anticipation and anxiety. Fortunately, we have Clemson and BC and USC and Stanford to help me mentally prepare.

Ole Miss may be the real deal. They looked very good last night against Bama. Great offensive weapons. I'm still not sold on their defense. GA is for real.

Our Secondary is still a question mark facing the great Cody Kessler. Don't blame the Stanford loss on him. Cody had a terrific passing day with three TDs. Do you all think that just because the Irish beat GT, a win over UMass, Clemson, and USC is automatic? The GT game was a teaching moment for the defense and they can apply it this coming Saturday. Finish the game. What are they odds of a major letdown? I don't know a darn thing about UMass but I am sure I will learn a lot this week. And, since we are all looking ahead, I heard mention several times on two different ND post game radio shows that Navy QB Keenan Reynolds is better than Justin Thomas at running that damn option. So, we got that going for us. And let me say this, Paul Johnson took that "never quit" attitude he had at Navy and brought it to GT. Our defense was only so happy to oblige in the final two minutes .

I think Ole Miss is very, very scary. Against teams not named Alabama, their defense will do fine.

And a side note, you watch Alabama and you think these guys aren't that great, and then, wham! they get a spark and just go off.

I think ND would have a very tough time against either of those teams.

The Dallas Cowboys are being hit by the injury bug as well. It doesn't matter what league I cant remember so many prime player being hurt. Between last season and this season it seems like a lot.

I believe Derick Henry and zeke elliot are better then Procise but he is having a heck of a season so far.

I refuse to start talking about the playoffs until after an undefeated start past USC. We beat UMass, Clemson, Navy and USC then I think we can start to consider the possibility. Remember, we are a week removed from nearly losing to Virginia.
