It’s gonna be a tall task stopping him w/o being susceptible to the early down play action. Kiser needs to have the game of his life. We need to stop the slip/bubble/tunnel screens. Bama destroyed us w/ those, especially in the first half of that game. We have to limit yac on those. Open field tackling will be crucial I think.

100% agree. My concern is Freeman has stopped all live tackling in practice the two weeks leading up to the game to help prevent injuries. Makes sense but I just hope we don't come out rusty on tackling fundamentals. The last thing we can do is allow OSU to build a lead on us early...

I'm not a fan of cutting down the physicality too far in advance of the game unless they went all out for 4 qtrs two Saturday's prior. Would have liked to seen a tough scrimmage this past Saturday for about a qtr in addition to that 4qtr scrimmage 2wks prior. If a player is banged up or too crucial hold him out. Let's go, hit somebody dammit.

I’m w/ you, wiggelsby. We saw how removing real contact from practice worked for us in ‘12 against Bama. I can’t count how many times they bounced off of manti & motto’s tackles behind the LOS and turned them into big gains. I get you don’t wanna get your guys hurt but there has to be a balance that keeps your guys ready for true, in-game contact.

This OSU team will be much more about speed and weaspons than the physicality the 12 bama team showed.

With that said, I agree i'm not a fan of going too long without tackling. in 12 ND's top players didn't tackle for 4-5 weeks, this will be 2, so not quite as bad. We'll see, we are starting a VERY experienced defense. Hopefully they did some tackling to the ground on Tuesday after having last week off from tackling.

Freeman wants maximum depth on defense for this game. It will be used accordingly. Employing the depth is one layer to counter the army of OSU receivers and the quarterback that have been advertised as bigger than life. Pressure and fresh legs will be required to fuel this defense. Hopefully, Golden's coverage schemes will fill in the blanks. If full contact practices and scrimmages were marginalized...I think its all about depth and pressure to attack these "super-humans" on the other side.

Was not aware Freeman stopped live tackling that long ago.
Man that seems like an awfully long time.

I'm not 100% sure there's no live tackling, he just said he beat the crap out of them for the first 2-3 weeks, then he was going to ease up the last 2. My take/hope is that last week they did next to know live tackling to recover and this week your typical game week live tackling only. That would be a good plan IMHO.
