Looking back at conference title rematch history | NCAA.com
I have attached an NCAA article on Conference Championship Game rematches from the regular season. That data was through the 2016 championship games. It showed that there have been 33 rematches and the team that won the regular season game has won 20 of these rematches.
I then checked the championship games for 2017, 2018 and 2019. I found an additional 12 rematches, with the team that won the regular season game winning 8 of these rematches.
Thus there have been a total of 45 regular season game rematches in conference championship games over the years. The team that won the regular season game has a record of 28-17 in the conference championship game rematch.
Will this have a bearing on the 12/19/20 game against Clemson? No, but thought it was interesting since the prevailing opinion of the media seems to be that it is difficult to beat a good team twice in a season. The stats seem to dispute this since the regular season winner has a winning record in these rematches.
