Stanford David Bailey in the portal. Would be a good get.

Go Irish.
Quest… have you seen him play besides against ND? I thought we recruited him, but not positive on that. The firing of the Stanford coach might lead to several players entering the portal; but not sure they have anyone at any position better than what we project as starters.

We did recruit him. A Mater Dei kid. We don’t get those. He is a natural fit and I hope we get him

I would be surprised if he chose ND. Too much competition in the room for guaranteed playing time

Traore
Botelho
Young
Burnham
Junior
Loghan

Then on passing downs they move guys like Sneed KVA and possibly Faraimo down

I’ve read some semi-credible posts by staff on other sites that Bailey is asking for $2M and guaranteed snaps, doesn’t want to be a passing down specialist. That doesn’t fit Freeman’s “culture”, I’m guessing we take a hard pass if true.

He just visited Texas Tech, maybe those cowboys will pony up…

If that is true, he's not coming here

That's a locker room cancer right there.

I think we got DEs. We need DTs. One more volume DT, who could be a solid rotational player, and be good enough to handle a lot of snaps. I suppose our DT situation with Onye back, knock on wood, is okay. But if I had to pick DT over DE I would. And happily take a likely starter.

But we don't really need starting DEs. That's definitely not what we need. We have starter quality, barring injuries. So if we bring in someone like Bailey, who moves to the bench, who otherwise was good enough and expecting to start? Quality is quality, and take all you can get I suppose in the age of the portal. But it feels like we already have starter quality, production, chemistry, and it's not like RJ Oben lit it up, as far frontline DE transfers go.

Judging by last year’s plethora of injuries take as many as you can get.

Yeah, that's very true. And I guess you could, and maybe ought to, make the alternative argument that they're pros now, we gotta embrace that deeply, and when new players come in they should be welcomed as part of the cause and veterans just have to deal with it. HS recruits do not carry some higher status or prerogatives. The coach has an imperative to get the best roster he can by legitimate means, and that absolutely includes the portal.

But that's just rhetoric. You can can and very well could alienate the players on your roster, who have proven themselves and paid their dues, and that is a definitely a consideration for a coach. They don't get paid THAT much. Playing time means something.

Texas tech vs. nd interesting face off
Really, so we're a finalist? Well bring it on then, I guess. I don't want JT or Bothello to decide they're not needed anymore and then they transfer out. I would keep either of those two if it came down to something like that. But that's probably foolish.

Demands = another pri modanna destined to fail over time. Go ruin some one else’s roster. You think you’re too good as is? Lmfao.

Offer him 1 mil and let him compete for the starting position. If he produces he plays. This is ND not an average program. He sounds like the real deal but his price is too high. ND should sell him on national exposure which could raise his draft status and his future paycheck in the NFL.

Seems 247 is projecting Texas Tech as the “winner”. Not sure we even blew the $$ on a long distance phone call.

LSU recruited a transfer DE who notoriously had a long list of demands, that went viral, and UF apparently refused to match, or so the story goes. Including playing time, and snaps, and what downs he gets to play on. That's the free market. All you gotta do as a coach is just walk away. Thanks but no thanks. I didn't know what to make of him, jack clyburn or something. He seems extremely confident, professional, hard working, pretty good player, but not some difference maker. So he's treating it like a normal job situation. It's a seller's market, here are my demands.

That would be classic if he sued LSU, if all that was really true and LSU actually committed to a binding arrangement where a lawsuit was at least possible, if he didn't get to stay in on every 3rd and long situation. He's more of a run stopper I think. And he wants to improve his pass rushing stock for the NFL, so he's just taking what the market will bear.
