My feeling is he seemed miserable for most of the year. I can only guess why but I think it's because the lack of catchable balls he's thrown.

Having said that I think he has way too many drops.
He's not a fade route threat nor is he a possession reciever.

If he's not overrated then he's playing this particular year underachieving

I think it's a combo of things.

A. They try to use him as a deep threat and he's not that kind of WR.
B. The offense is very different from the fun and gun BK offense which minimizes his chances
C. I think he has embraced the role of blocking as it will improve his overall game.
D. Brandon Wimbush needs to be consistent and has a bevy of options when he does throw.

Were a run first team. BW is getting better each weak. He still over throws the deep route pretty much every time, but his short to intermediate game is getting better every week. Also, without another good WR threat teams were double, and even tripling teaming him on defense. Now that Stepherson is coming up defenses will not be able to do that. I think between BW improving, and Brown having more breathing room his percentage will go up. But again, if we can run the ball we will and there will not be a spotlight on the receivers like we've seen in the pass. So in short to answer your question, no he' not overrated. Not even sure how you came up with that.

I'm thinking his touches are going to go up the rest of the way. The only chance the remaining teams have is to bring extra defenders in the box.

If we want to beat the biggest of the big boys, we will need him and Wimbush to get on the same page (especially on the deep balls). We have seen what happens when our run game gets jammed up.

He and Mack both have way too many drops for players of their talent levels. We haven't been great in the passing game. A lot of that lies with the QB, but there's a lot of blame on the receivers not getting open and dropping too many balls when they do.

He is a very good wide out hindered by the development of BW.

As BW improves, and he will, that ranking of 250 will rise dramatically.

I think the passing game as a whole is not very good. Its a shame, but the receiving corps is on the lower end of Kelly's tenure and Wimbush has improved a lot, but the passing game stagnates hard.

Your first para is spot on. Too many line drives. Long passes need to be lofted so a receiver can run under them and cradle them, not have them ricochet off his hands.

Bottom line with St Brown is this, WEIGHT ROOM! His muscle mass or lack there of, is like a 16 year old boy. He has week hands and weak arms. He gets jammed and bumped off his route way to easy. He rarely wins a jump ball. Smart player, good speed, just needs some weight room time.

Why not try him on some Jet Sweeps or on the Screen Pass that Will Fuller was so dominant on? I mean either deal with what he is or try different things with him.

My biggest complaint about ND is that they don’t stick with plays that are successful as much as I’d like to see. For example, Kevin Stepherson gashed USC on a few Jet Sweeps and then last week they didn’t run him on any of them.

Stephenson is our best receiver.

Then why did they not target him more in the first half last week? I agree with you btw. Whatever happened to the Brian Kelly offense that got Michael Floyd the ball any and every time it wanted to? And I know BK doesn’t call the plays anymore but....

He’s getting it to Josh Adams any and every time he wants to, with phenomenal results!

Yeah... I guess I deserve that (your point being Adams is ND’s top player as Floyd once was) even though I could counter that as a Back it’s easier to get Josh the ball.

My overall gripe is that getting Stepherson 10-12 targets and/or handoffs per game will (and has... they’ve not done a terrible job so please don’t take my comment as meaning so) take the ND offense to a much higher level. Imagine defenses having to account for Adams, St. Brown, Mack (he’s gotta turn it on eventually, right?) Wimbush and Kevin? Wow!!!! That’s a tall order. Wish we had him against Georgia.

What is the reason for this post. I know you are upset that we are doing well but...

Thanks. Just the kind of posts that will push his brother -- the #4 player of 2018 and #1 WR -- to USC. We could be leading for the highest rated receiver ND has ever gotten but you have to torpedo it with this post.

EQ is currently the top receiver on a team that is rated #3 behind Georgia and freaking Alabama! and a team that is absolutely dominating on offense, he will have his breakout game when we need him. It will happen. Why the hell would you stir things up with these kinds of posts now when things are going great and we are trending up for Amon-Ra?!!!

Are you a Michigan/USC guy or a what? Jeez!

EQB was such a standout player last year. Did something happen?

Ridiculous.

You want to look at things like they aren't really happening on...i on the other hand will look at them clearly and with reality.

He is no where near expectations. He's not a freshman any longer yet he played better earlier in career.

Obviously Kizer throws more accurate and his opportunity was greater for bigger numbers with Kizer throwing but that's no excuse for the ones that he could catch, yet drops...misplays. whatever.
More times than not he looks miserable to even be playing.

Play the younger guys if that's how he wants to be.

BK said a few weeks that EQ is a great team guy. He just wants ND to win and is a good downfield blocker.

If in fact someone's not happy then they should be reminded that it's a team game and the goal is to win games, not get personal stats.

Stu..Any and all questions about St Brown’s on field performance and attitude are fair game in my opinion. He has underperformed, failed to fight for the ball, allowed db’s to take him out of his route, dropped very catchable key passes, and looks disinterested half the time. His brother excels at being successful in all of these, and you can be sure that he has observed all of this and more on his own. He sure as hell doesn’t need 88ND to Point this out to him to know how his brother has performed. He’s a smart and thoughtful and confident young man from all reports, and his decision will be based on many factors, including his expectations for NDs passing game over the next three years. Not who posts what on this board!

It's crazy around here. For years under Kelly we have screamed on here for ND to run the ball and not be so pass happy. Now we are dominating in the run game with on offensive line that is manhandling opponents and we are on here complaining about receivers not catching enough balls or not calling certain pass routes anymore. We are never happy around.

Well in order to have the dominant running O most of us (especially me) wanted, a little bit of the passing game had to give. But darn, this kid gets open

Has nothing to do with it.
I'm elated we have legit power football. Nobody is happier than myself about this.

However if you follow along above you'd clearly see I'm not worried about his numbers but it might be clear that he is in fact worried about it. ?
I'm not sure what else would explain his surliness. Disinterest, pissy attitude, whatever you want to call it but obviously ansevident from his demeanor. He looks lethargic at times. I don't know why but one can only think it's from his number of quality targets he's given vs. Other times here.

In the end it doesn't matter to me his numbers I just want him playing as hard as he can.

Sorry but I would rather trust Coach Kelly and Coach Long. I know Kelly, if someone was underperforming or more importantly displaying a bad attitude (and I have never witnessed a Kelly team with a more positive attitude) EQ wouldn't be starting.

New QB, new O-coordinator, new system... he has looked awkward at times, but he is still a threat.

Not arguing whether he should be playing. Kelly has talked him up of late, especially his down field blocking. I do think he has underperformed and I think he is starting largely based on last year’s performance and this year’s expectations, which I think he still might meet with breaking out the rest of the season, starting today! I was really taking issue with the suggestion we shouldn’t post negative comments about St Brown because it will negatively affect the recruitment of his brother.

I actually had noticed what looked like a blasé attitude at times, frustration maybe... but when we are chasing a player with the upside of his brother, I decided to keep it to myself. Don't know if these kids read the s- we crazy fans post, but I just didn't see an upside of knocking a player when we are 7-1 with a lot of new elements on offense and with a chance of getting the highest rated recruit since Clausen. USC has a lot to like for these recruits.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read this. The insanity of such a post is off the chart.

Ready...????

I DON'T CARE.....if someones feelings get hurt who is emitting a piss poor attitude and evergy on the team. The drops are annoying but the disinterested attitude is totally unacceptable. If someone has a problem with me saying that I wouldn't want them and their paper thin skin on my team anyways.

End Around for 35 yards. We HAVE to get him the ball more. I know Josh is having a legendary season but in my humble opinion, K Steph is ND’s best offensive weapon.

Well, he has already proved you wrong in the first half. This thread is Typical of someone who doesn't understand the game. And no need for this thread. What does it accomplish. I'm just hope Amon-Ra pretends he doesn't read your original post!

I know you're not worried about the numbers. I was just kidding around thinking about some of the things we had been screaming for with the run game in the past.

Anytime you want to go over the game film without the help of Google I'll be more than happy to help you.

You sir are the one with absolutely no idea WTF you are talking about.

YOU are the one who thought BVG was a ****ing genius and that the players sucked.

Then you don't chime in ever except...EQ has an average first half...a typical first half for recievers...a few catches...now anyone who KNOWS football would say he had an average first half. A few catches...ok?

You see that he has an AVERAGE first half and he actually did what he's supposed to do...caught the ball...yet you treat that like he just discovered fire and water.

Funny though because you open mouth...insert foot... as he comes right back with another drop. A nice long pass at the two....i know he had to slide but hell right into his hands. Does he catch it? Nope.

But all is good though because he did have that average first half.

****ing weirdo

You still want BW replaced? Is BK still on the hot seat? :p
Can you post again about how important it is to be strong up the middle?

ND needs all 3 Wr's to make plays this week vs a great D. This would be a great week for ESB and Mack to break out. I have a good feeling about this game.
