I think it is about coaches and staffs, rather than universities. Granted the universities are complicit by hiring sorts such as Cristobal or Lanning.

I was hiking on the John Muir Trail southbound. I was at Guitar Lake. It's a pretty festive place because the next day is the ascent of Whitney and the trails end. We kept seeing this guy in green and yellow at various places, so we invited him to the fire for a pre-summit eve drink. It turn out he was the Oregon AD. We started talking football, I mentioned we were #3 in recruiting and had a 5 star safety coming in that I was very high on. He soon left for his campsite and later pulled this giant SAT phone out of his bag. Anyway, you know how sound travels over water so well, and the wind was right, and I heard him say: "Tell the Ole Shoedog I am going to need $3m to get this kid Bowen out of SouthBend." Then the wind shifted and that's all I heard. Then later I met this guy dressed in red and white....
