I was taking a look at this scholarship chart and it amazes me how few seniors are left at the end.

Yes....that is good and I see that now. Young talent is nice to have but for ND to succeed in 2017 they will need to rely on some of the veterans to hopefully finish their careers strongly.I should add, when you add the four 5th-year candidates to the above list - (Bivin, Matuska, McGlinchey, Smythe) that's a total of 21 players who are either seniors academically or 5th-year graduates. That amounts to almost exactly 1 quarter of the 85 roster limit we are allotted so we are actually doing very well with not only retention in general but also keeping key 5th-year players in the program. However, depending on how we finish with the key recruiting targets left on the board, don't be surprised if we lose Bivin and/or Matuska once everything shakes out.
Dopey is backND has more guys leave when the can than any other school. Graduated seniors w/ 1 year left leave at an alarming rate - not all - but more than other schools over the last 4 years. Transfers - ones who leave early do so when they feel they will have a better opportunity elsewhere.
NFL - early exit to the NFL - can't blame players for leaving early to NFL
BK trying to make DK a Captain for next season before he made his decision was comical and he was flat out trying to do a disservice to DK.
A recent Stanford 5th year QB - started some games ended up as the back up is staying for his 5th year to be a back up - decided not to transfer. When teams can maintain good chemistry and good depth - that is how you build winning programs. And that is why Stanford has beaten ND 5 out of the last 7 years. Better coach. Better program.
BK is a fraud. Enjoy the 8 or 9 win season and another Pinstripe Bowl.
Thanks for that list. The OP needs to check his facts.Several of the players in the "Junior" column will actually be Seniors in 2017 but were redshirted at some point, so there are more seniors coming back next year than it may appear. All of the players with an * or a ^ next to their name in the Junior column will actually be Seniors academically.
These players were all part of the 2014 recruiting class and thus will be seniors academically:
Bars
Bonner
Byrne
Cage
J. Hayes
Luatua
Martini
Mokwuah
Morgan
Mustipher
Nelson
Newsome
Tranquill
Trumbetti
VanGorder
Watkins
Weishar
There are 5 cornerbacks in the sophmore class though. Someone in that group has to be talented and step up.I guess some listed as Junior are seniors....just listed there due to eligibility. I think now that I look again what is more troubling is there is no one listed as a freshmen corner back
Dopey is back
Stanford has zero National Championships. Zero. Read more and post less.
Another dopey post! You are consistent. Zero National Championships! Praying you didn't procreate. Not sure you know how.First of all, spell your name correctly ? You are insult to the Great Mr. Penick. Why don't you correct your name and if he is your hero - who's the Dope who cannot even get his hero's name correct ?
Secondly, Stanford is by the better football program over the last 7 years and it is not all that close. Win a game vs Stanford and come talk to me.
Lastly, the not only does Stanford dominate ND in football over these last 7 years - but in overall sports Stanford Leads ALL College's in TEAM NATIONAL TITLES w/ over 100. ND's total number of National Titles 21. Stanford has won the Director's Cup now a record 22 straight years. Given to the College w/ the most Championship teams. Stanford owns ND in overall Team National Titles and it is not even close.
I wish ND could play football like Stanford. Maybe they'd win a Jan,1 type bowl game again sometime.
Before, you state anymore nonsense again - please correct the spelling of your handle. You are a disgrace to Mr. Penick.
First of all,the cbs have to learn a different system under Elko. I think you will see far better development and strength from dbs than in past. Give new coaches a chance. Players will step up.There are 5 cornerbacks in the sophmore class though. Someone in that group has to be talented and step up.
I was not criticizing the sophmore class of DB's. I responded to a post that was concerned about us not having any incoming freshmen DB's. There are 5 in the sophmore class alone who can produce, of course not counting production from the junior and senior classes.First of all,the cbs have to learn a different system under Elko. Nitwit is back.Enjoy winning no more than 8 or 9 games w/ a bowl game in Bosie Idaho at the Potato Bowl.
ND Football - is a thing of the past.
ND is a women's basketball school
Nitwit is back.
Shocking if we beat a Georgia team that went 7-5, and almost lost to Nichols State at home? We may even be favored in that game.a favorable schedule might get 7-8 wins. Stanford and USC are inthe 'would be huge upset' catagory.
UGA looks like another game that would be a shocker of an upset. So 3 presumed 'L''s and then the usual 'BK brain fart' (unless one of the new staff has the smarts to step up n say 'hey coach, wtf!'); to go 8-4.
ND must win the winnable games; then avoid UM/tOSU, SEC or ACC in the 'meh' bowl or it is another post season beatdown,
21Pennisk, what is your prediction for number of wins next year ?
Shocking if we beat a Georgia team that went 7-5, and almost lost to Nichols State at home? We may even be favored in that game.
We were favored in 7 of our 8 losses last year. And every year except 2012 we lost at least 2 games we were favored in.
Even if we are favored in the Ga. game - does not mean a thing w/ BK as the head coach.
Consistently dopey. You post like a SEC fan. Get better!Pennisk, I didn't say predict the number of wins BK will have over the final 5 years of his contract extension - which you have at 4.2 wins per season. Coach 8-4 will surely have more than 21 wins over the next 5 seasons.
Consistently dopey. You post like a SEC fan. Get better!
Please don't procreate. Too many dopes already in this world.Pennisk, I do understand how you are predicting 4.2 wins per year for the next 5 seasons coming off the 4 win season. But, BK is a better coach than what he showed last season. He will get his 8 or 9 wins next year and be back on track.
Please don't procreate. Too many dopes already in this world.
Too late Pennisk, Very large Irish Catholic family with 12 ND Grads over the last 40 years. Some with a National Title ring and other mongram winners.
