Eureka! My buddy and I have figured it out!

PJ Fleck seems to be the fan-favorite to replace BK, yet Chuck Martin quietly went on a record setting tear to finish the season at Miami (OH) -- tying Ohio for the MAC division title. Savvy couldn't decide between the fan-favorite or the guy he told to get some HC experience if he wanted to replace BK and lead ND out of the tunnel. So behind the scenes he has set up a showdown for the ages. One that only Ford field is good enough to host and only ESPN3 is good enough to broadcast.

The 2017 MAC Championship game will be for all the marbles! The WMU Broncos, led by PJ Fleck, will take on the resurgent Miami (OH) RedHawks, led by Chuck Martin. The winning team gets to play Boise State in the Cotton Bowl. The winning coach gets the keys to the ND kingdom AND the next star Western-PA QB (Wimbush) who will lead the Irish to the promised land!

You heard it here first folks. I'd bet ESPN is already interviewing people for the 30-for-30.

What if I told you?!? Well I did!

Don't want either of those coaches at ND. Western Michigan may as well be a high school gig compared to UND. (No offense)

PJ Fleck may be the next coming of Nick Saban. Really and truly, maybe he is.
BUT ND CANNOT TAKE THE CHANCE THAT HE IS NOT!!

If and when BK is no longer the coach here, ND needs a proven winner at a big-time program to replace him. No more rolling the dice.

(And WMU is playing Wisconsin in their bowl game, not Boise State)

but, you should have stopped at the choice of Fleck; everything after that is dubiously doubtful !

Sorry, but what planet do you live on? No "proven winner" D1 coach is coming here. Maybe an old one trying to jump start a declining career or someone at a much lower D1 level, but who else? This job, the way it is currently structured, is not attractive to a coach trying to build a resume. The top people view this position as a dead end, so ask the last 4 coaches here. Where people come up with how all the coaches in D1 are fawning over the opportunity to come here is - unbelievable. It's a parallel universe. People might say they could have an interest and a conversation but, once seeing all the challenges, the current roaster, and the fan base expectations just walk. This is a rebuild, not just of the team, but the culture. You don't have the luxury of a wide open array of choices. That's the real world.

Woe is us. Woe is me. Woe is you. More of the typical hair pulling we have come to expect from this poster.

Chuck Martin is a retread.
And while at ND he was relegated to 'yes' man! I find a guy who is his own man will never accept 'yes' man.

No Martin.

They're the Western Michigan Broncos. The Mustangs are SMU. And it's Miami University of Ohio. The University of Miami is in Coral Gables, Florida.

You don't like it, don't read it. Or have someone stop reading it to you.

Maybe you need to stop running around like a chicken with your head cut off. On what basis do you claim that no "proven winner" D1 coach is coming to ND? How many coaches have you talked to? Or are you just pulling this out of your ass, as is your wont? How many coaches have told you that they look at the ND job as a dead end? Or are you just making that up too? Your claims are ridiculous. Just because you are in a state of panic doesn't mean everyone else is.

So you say, the real world says you're full of it. You name one coach in the top 10 of CF today and see if they would consider coming here. As ND found out the last time when they settled for Kelly - your guy. Took you 7 years to figure that out. Go back to sleep.

Howard, I don't agree with your basic premise that the challenges here essentially scare off any proven Div 1 winning coaches. I do agree with you that changes need to be made, and cultural change is chief among these. As Yogi would say, this is dejavu all over again. I recall being totally supportive when Kelly arrived and criticized the soft and loose culture throughout the program, and his efforts to change this. Thought his intensity and demands on players and coaches were largely successful, but these were short lived as the fire in his belly seemed to slowly die. Today, we are once again a team that plays soft and underachieves with poor conditioning and worse fundamentals on weekly display, Which I think presents an attractive opportunity for a quality coach to turn this around and to realize success quickly.

Agreed. It's from where you will get that coach and who/what type of coach you'll find that will accept the challenges this job has that is different from other programs. You want an old one, jump starting his career? Or someone young, bold and wanting to make a name for himself and the team he coaches.

Hey, dumbass, Kelly was regarded as the rising young coach at the time, just as some of you guys regard PJ Fleck now. I am confident that neither Nick Saban nor Urban Meyer is coming to ND. I doubt that Petersen is coming to ND. Beyond that, I don't know which coach would or would not come to ND now, nor do you. So stop with the moaning and handwringing, because you don't know squat.

Your the one hand wringing and crying. Get over yourself. You don't like what I say, you can ignore it or pound sand. Whatever gives you pleasure.

I definitely agree all you have to look at as proof is our last four hires. That's over 2 decades. The only guy that actually fits your criteria right now is Les Miles and he's a Michigan man so I don't think that's happening.

I don't think you understand what hand wringing is. You are constantly here talking about death spirals, how no good coach will take the ND job, how ND is doomed, etc., etc., etc. That is hand wringing, which is also known as hair pulling, another thing for which you are famous. I am compelled to point out what an uninformed idiot you are, so that other people who read this board don't think that everyone here has no brain.

If you are projecting ahead -- possible. But, WMU played Ohio University at Ford Field (and the game was close!).

This thread is exhibit A to explain why a lot of good members don't stick around anymore.

If you read correctly, this was a satirical hypothetical for next year (2017). If you want to pick a fight, move on to a different post.
