The more I think about it, the more I realize they should dust off the LSU game plan for this week. Lots of similarities!

We don't want their run game to get into a rhythm.
We have a young QB making his first start.
ND's strength is the OL.
We need to stay ahead of down & distance to keep them off the field.

Go Irish!

Make them throw to win. Put the corners outside and not have them worried about the run game, with Max deep. 8 in the box, hat on hat, let the best man win.

Or do the typical, wait for them to make a mistake as they get 4-6 yards per play.

it is all so easy ... on paper or a message board.

The problem is BOTH teams have game plans.

I just re-read my post. I don't see where I called it easy. In fact, I believe it will be very difficult to execute. I was trying to make a point that the keys to the game will be almost identical to the ones when we beat LSU in the bowl game.

I keep on hearing from ND media insiders that BK has been working on defending the option since summer. Problem is, Paul Johnson has seen everything and most likely has an answer. Might BVG give GT several different defensive looks and change personnel around?

offensively throw on about 50% of first downs....and this will really open up the ground game in the second half.(most teams should throw more on first down but I digress)

than run more on 90% of second down and third and medium situations. i'd like to see about 60% of the total irish pass plays coming on first down.

yes they should run the ball that much. fourth and less than 2 on the ga tech side of the field should be an automatic go for it situation.

defensively keep the safety's bouncing around in the pre snap....they should never stop moving and should routinely shift from strong to weak and vice versa

corners have to jam at the line...no receivers can get buy them off the snap

and for god's sakes tackle well.

As Bobby Knight said awhile back and I concur I've coached sports for 20 years and still have no clue as to what "getting in a rhythm means?.Is that when the lead singer, bass player and drummer are all harmonizing well together.

Tackle on defense and hold on to the ball on offense.

Watching a few of GT's games including the Orange Bowl, I'm amazed at how poorly teams tackle against them.

I see where some of you want to run the ball down their throats. I agree but first (which is pretty much expected), Kelly has to open up the passing game (deep patterns) to get GT to respect passing ability because GT will stack the box. Either Kizer has it or he does not. If Kizer does not show GT he can beat them with the pass, it will be a long day.

Defensively, we must see if we can stop the option with 8 up. If not, it will be a blowout.

Georgia Tech on offense

Thomas an excellent QB for triple option.
4 returning offensive linemen .
4 top running backs gone from last year.
2 of their top receivers gone .

Georgia Tech on defense.

Finished 9th or worse in every major defensive category in the ACC
Defensive line struggled to make plays in the backfield .
Ranked 61st in tackles for losses in FBS
Struggled to slow down the rush ,allowing 5.1 per carry ( ranked 102)

Positives on D line .returns All- ACC candidate at nose tackle Adam Gotsis, along with freshman All-American DE KeShun
Freeman and senior DT Jabari Hunt-Days .
4 returning starters in the secondary.

Got these stats from some college football mags .

Don't know how much they have improved on defense .Couldn't really tell from Alcorn and Tulane games. Should be able to exploit some weaknesses in the GT defense .? Control the clock running the ball ? Seems we can be effective with Kizer on offense.GT may have some kinks on defense.

Defending the GT offense ? Their offense was very potent in the last four 2014 games .Beat Clemson 28-6. Beat Georgia 30-24 in overtime.Lost to Florida St 35-37. Beat Mississippi St 49-34.Three of the four teams were ranked in the top 20 .

Any suggestions about our game plan .

Still believe we can put points up against their defense

Good one

Know your assignments on defense, don't get out of position, and don't miss tackles.

This game worries the F out of me.
