Rugby-style tackling

With all of the concussion issues - this is where tackling needs to go. You won't knock anyone out of a game, but, after all, that isn't the objective. I know people have talked about getting rid of helmets and I think that is the best idea - but NCAA and NFL probably see too much liability if they went that far.

Helmets with their identifiable logo and colors are not gong anywhere, but Rugby Style tackling is where we need to go, American Football, known as Gridiron football around the world was originally an offshoot of Rugby.

In Rugby we sometimes wear some soft helmets to avoid head cuts. Great hard hitting game without pads - not for softies.

In my days playing rugby,we were taught to hit the solar plexus area with our shoulder,if possible,to knock the player off balance, never to lead with our head. As for headgear, some wore a type of light headgear with ear-flaps to try and avoid the "cauliflower ear " from the rough and tumble of the Scrum. Since I played primarily at Scrum Half I never had to wear one.
