Roll call, be honest who's rooting against ND

to speed up BK's departure?

Look, that's a place no ND fan should go! it is ok to not pay attention or switch to the NFL, but that is just the wrong attitude!

If Kelly wins the next 47 games, then I would gladly take shit from Bodi & Co.

I would never cheer for the Irish to lose. NEVER!!! If you do then go follow another team because there is no room for you as an Irish fan!!!

Anyone who would root against 'their team' has problems.... I am sure they would be the type that would be upset if ND went 12-0 as they were not winning by enough... Some people just have to be negative all the time... it is tiring.

You know and I know there are contributors on this board who have stated that they want ND to lose. We all know who they are. They can run but they can't hide. That might be acceptable in the NFL or NBA, but never ever here.

posters posting will not cost Kelly his job. Fan opinions do factor in the the equation because the fans bring light to poor performance issues. It is actually (jmo) the duty of fans to expect excellence.
What will ultimately cost Kelly his job at ND are issues of poor performance. What you have seen is what you get.
Ty got fired for 6-5. Weis said 9-3 would get him fired. Jack said 4 wins is a guarantee of another year!
FUBAR!

I understand it in this situation, but I can't root against ND. I hope ND wins Saturday and Kelly resigns.
Those are two tough outcomes. I say you have a shot, a small one, that ND wins..... and little to no shot that BK resigns!

as the front page article says I want them to finish strong. Its in Deshone's interest if he goes pro also even if they lose the last 2 games I b believe kelly is still on board. so they might as well win. Kelly need redemption. I think they can win out if Kelly does not get in the way. 2 good team left

Will never root for ND to lose. I may want Kelly to leave, either of his own volition or via firing, but I will always want the team to win. For me, It simply comes down to wanting the team to win more than wanting Kelly gone.

Real ND fans don't hope for 18-22 year old student athletes to lose, regardless of the circumstances. Period. If that's one's inclination, go follow the NFL.
There are those on here that, because they ARE rooting against ND, are "real" fans because it speeds up BK's departure. They say those that root FOR ND are just Kelly followers.

Anything to support their argument and make themselves out to be far more than what they ever dreamed of being.

I believe JS has already determined his course of action with BK and the outcome of the next two games will not change it (barring major scandal), so I will absolutely root for ND to win. I won't pretend to know what he has decided.

Hopefully JS takes a coach's entire body of work into consideration when making hiring/firing decisions, so 2 weeks out of 7 years shouldn't change the calculus much.

I have been quite critical of Kelly. I would like him to leave because I think his teams either underperform or the players are overrated. With that said I cannot and will not root against them.

what the crux of the matter is, is that it is an 'individual' thing; I want ND to win, but I would like Kelly to realize that it is time for him to move on. The longer Kelly is at ND the farther ND will slide in competitive importance. If Kelly gets ND he should do the unselfish thing and leave at seasons end.

to speed up BK's departure?
I'll admit I tried. But, could not do it. Being an ND fan is a part of me. Has been since I was a kid. I've been taking abuse for it since then. I come from a family of Tennessee, Bama and Arkansas fans. Have heard how ND cheats, pays off refs my whole life.

We have had "fans" over the past few weeks hoping for an empty stadium for ND to play in just to get some kind of idiotic message across to Jack. We have had "fans" boldly declare they are done watching ND football for the year. We have had "fans" suggest and agree with the suggestion that it is best for ND to lose out. And now, some of these "fans" have short memories and some are in denial. Our players deserve 100% from us fans. Nothing less. Be mad at the staff. Hold players accountable. Never give up on them.

What? Absolutely ridiculous and pathetic.

Does it matter? Us rooting for or against ND has no impact on the game.

I don't recall anyone ever saying that rooting for or against ND had any impact on the game. I think we are discussing a larger point, i.e., whether ND fans should be rooting for the team to lose.

In some ways this is a silly post. Look, we all root for ND. Each day, each game, all of the teams. When discussing ND football, again for the slow thinking Coach 8 & 4 sycophants, this is NOT about wins, but how the program has deteriorated. Each and every game - each and every year. We are entering a stage where not only will the program continue to deteriorate but will compound the mess as it goes through time. You will see this first in recruiting and an animal death smell of a decaying football program's carcass, followed with the inability to attract really quality coaches and finally a malaise that falls over all of the fan base and the students. It's already started. This is impossible to stop until there is a complete program change starting with "8 & 4". Until that happens, look for more excuses each week, more and more people accepting mediocrity and a year end faint hope of an obscure bowl that fits the academic standards of the once proud University, and the faint echos of the Victory March. Soon we will all end up saying - "there was a time", and "in their day" Notre Dame was once know as the Fighting Irish. Just remember the name Jack Swarbrick. Thanks.

I say it has an impact on the players and that may translate to the way they prep and perform. It may also have an affect on any recruits that may be borderline ND. I really believe the players can feed off the energy from their fan base and student body. It may not equal Ws, but it does equal solid effort. So mark me down as the lone voice saying it does have an impact on the players.

The charade continues.

I am one of the fans that said the stadium should be empty. I admit that as I know you are aware of that. Again my position has more to do with the administration than the team. Though I am aware the team would see the half empty stadium. Look, I'm not hear to debate anyone. I'm fine if you don't agree with me. The point an empty stadium could make, is that if you want seats to be filled and make money, then put a product out there fans can get behind. I have to tell you. I still support the team but it is very hard to spend Saturday's watching substandard football. It's painful. ND deserves better. They can do better without compromising their values. But I don't think the people in charge care. So if they see the money go away, maybe they will wake up and make a change to get football relevant again. Feel free to fire back. That's how I feel.

If you accept 6-6 after 7 seasons from your head coach then you are not a fan. You are a moron. Cheer for an Ivy League team. They dont go to bowls or play for a national championship.

Irrelevant to the discussion. Stop setting up straw men. No one likes a 6-6 record. The question is whether you are pulling for ND to win or pulling for ND to lose.

There are always larger picture people. In any walk of life. Or to put it another way. There are optimists, pessimists, and REALISTS. Sometimes in life one has to lose to REALLY win. Pat Narduzzi would be a wonderful fit. GO IRISH.

Lose to "really" win? Interesting concept coming from a "realist".

Tell you what. Go to the game and tell everyone around you that you're a "real" ND fan and you're rooting for them to lose and see what happens.

the logic of 'bite the bullet' is obvious and understandable.
this is something that will have as many opinions as there are fans.
no one has the perfect answer (except me of course: win the next 47 games)

Let's look at the facts. JS said BK will lead the team out the tunnel vs Temple. Maybe he gets fired week 2. BK says he's not going anywhere so I don't see him resigning. Maybe just maybe ND wins the next 2 and a bowl game and all these young guys playing pays off for next year.

This type of thread is another factor when I wrote earlier about considering just stopping reading this site at all.

Click your heals three times Dorothy!

how Kelly can successfully survive at ND:

fans currently are focused on the W/L record but the problem has been forcast in recruiting defensively. The failure to bring in top DL is the Achilles Heel of the ND staffs. In fact overall the defense recruits at a level outside the level to finish as a top 15 team.

But recruiting usually hinges on just a handful of commits. If after the season ends Kelly and staff go on a national blitz to get 5 top/elite defensive commits then Kelly can turn this thing around.

What about Kelly's lack of game day skills, you remind; well the problem has been that Kelly's teams lack depth talent and have little margin for errors. Therefore any faux pas or even insignificant injury can set this team in a tizzy. Unfortunstely Kelly has a few faux pas in almost every game. The team, especially defensively cannot usually overcome that happening.

Well if the talent on defense made for a more dominant D which can take control of critical moments in games then Kelly/ND can compete on a high level. 5 key defensive players added to this class are probably what it takes; 3DL and 2DB's.

A tall order, improbable but not impossible.

Oddly, most optimists realize that they are optimists, but most pessimists are convinced they are realists.
