Curious what fans think about Riley Leonard's 2024 season at Notre Dame especially as it relates to what you expected from him coming into the season.

I went with "met expectations"

Basically got a warm body at the position to hold the fort down until one of the internal options with more upside was ready to take over.

I will say I was really impressed with his ability as a runner this season though. He's a big guy with legit speed for his size who finishes his runs like a tailback and is very hard to bring down and has good instincts on when to tuck and run.

Chase,

I’ve defended you in the past, I don’t think people should name call each other because a difference of opinion over ND football.

That said, I gotta ask my man, what’s your deal? You have pretty good knowledge of CFB but I have wondered for years if you are the most pessimistic ND fan I’ve ever come across or a troll in camouflage?

Is there nothing that pleases you with ND FB? I was critical of Leonard myself, even before he took a snap in South Bend, and I still have my reservations. However, the young man has definitely thrown the ball better or at least more efficiently and effective the second half of the season. He has his limitations but seems like a guy who truly puts his guts into every game, genuinely cares about his teammates and playing well for them.

I’m a bit skeptical with ND at times, I keep waiting for us to win the “Big One” a “BCS bowl”, a playoff game, etc. but ND is profoundly different than they were 10-15 years ago when we were in a malaise and were a floundering program.

It’s ok to sit back and enjoy the Irish being relevant and in the “conversation” again. It’s never going to be as easy to win at ND as it is at OSU, UGA, Oregon, etc. they are football factories and as long as ND has high academic standards for their athletes, it’s unlikely ND can win at the clip those programs do without some occasional mediocre performances/seasons.

What, you just noticed? He's been that way forever.

What’s his F+ …that’s all you need to know.

We wouldn't be 11-1 if not to Riley. Our Offensive Line was decimated and a total work in progress early in the season. All Riley did, coming off a bad injury during which he missed nearly a year and spring ball, was get better.

Since Week 3, he has been the seventh-best quarterback in college football (and third best in the CFP) based on Total QBR.

I'll take that.

How many of the OPs slew of handles did they use to vote in this thread? All the met or below expectation votes, I'm sure.

The fact that anyone wastes their time responding like this to chaseball makes me SMH.

I never would have thought RL would play as well as he has down the stretch after the NIU disaster.

BUT he has; and the coaching staff have overall done a pretty good job of dealing with his strengths and weaknesses. The OL has been playing a lot better as well.

Now they have been VERY CAUTIOUS in play calling; and it has worked.

BUT It will not work if we are up against GA and the top Ds

The key will be to be aggressive without being reckless; and RL will have a very heavy weight on his shoulders.

The combination of Denbrock, RL, J Love and J Price has meant we don't need a QB that throws for 300 a game. Shout out to the O-line as well. If this trends continues we can continue to have a mobile QB, stellar backs and line and control games!

Sign me up to watch that every Saturday!
