Just awful.... Prayers for a speedy recovery.

NFL teams discovered Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith suffered nerve damage, according to a report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

"Difficult day for #NotreDame LB Jaylon Smith, who had his medicals. Ankle & knee nerve issues, teams believe he's out for 2016 -- at least"

Smith made contradictory statements in a press conference Friday afternoon about whether or not nerve damage was included in the knee injury he suffered on Jan. 1.

Smith tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee during the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State, the final game of his college career.

In 13 games as a junior, the 6-foot-3, 229-pounder tallied 115 tackles, nine tackles for loss and one sack, garnering All-American honors and taking home the Butkus Award.

Prior to suffering the injury, Smith was projected as a top 10 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Ok maybe not 10-15, and more like 2-3. Folks were discussing this two days ago as former NFL team doctor started posting things on Facebook after seeing Jaylon's video of him walking.

this is all because one doctor said that the brace he is wearing is ONLY used for those with drop foot which means nerve damage. And that is wrong. So it is up in the air about the possibility of nerve damage. The week before the draft I am bettting he will have doctors looking again to report to the teams. Then is when it will be known for sure one way or another

by the way I just looked and as of Feb 20 on the first page here there were no thread titles talking about Jayon smith. So a certain poster here is full of crap.

Haha, I just realized this isn't the paid board. I'm a dumbass. Sorry, we've been talking about this on the paid board for a few days now. I must have accidentally clicked this board, saw the post, and responded without realizing which board I was on.

No worries. I thought that might be it. You should drop by more often.

The best Smith can hope for is the 3rd round at this point. Three teams have already stated they won't draft him at all. Decker destroyed his career with a Urban Meyer called for cheap shot. Disgusting.

he'll be long gone before the 3rd. cheap shot ? what game were you watching ?

I hope he isn't sitting and waiting for his name to be called on TV like Brady Quinn during his draft day.

You have got to be kidding me echo, that shove was uncalled for after the play. Watch the video idiot. That POS may have cost Jaylon his career. Hopefully he recovers fully but he will have lost a ton of money. Decker should be ashamed at that bush league hit

I don't think he will be invited, and if he were his agent would likely advise against attending

I wish it weren't so but this injury sounds career ending. If JS can't play this year, an equally as good, non injured lb will emerge next draft year . I'm glad he has the insurance policy.

name calling ? nice. i don't think a shove is a cheap shot. was it an unfortunate injury ? of course. no one ever shoved a guy with the intent of causing a serious knee injury. some here just don't understand the game.

if he really did have nerve damage just about every NFL team would have bailed by now. So I frankly doubt a lot of what is reported; nuts this all started because a disgraced dr said the only reason to wear that particular brace was if one had nerve damage and that has already been shown to be false.

I usually agree w/ Echo on most things - but that play was a cheap shot by Decker. Jaylon was about 5 yards from the actual tackle of the ball carrier. Ball carrier was down - he got shoved on the side by Decker - about 5 yards away from the play w/ the carrier already down - the players that were closer to the actual tackle had all stopped. Decker did not. Decker unfortunately sneeked in a late shove just after the play ended. I know it is football - but a play like that away from the ball and whether is bearly late or a lot late - is still a cheap shot. That play may cost Jaylon a NFL career. Pretty sad IMO. Pretty sad. Thank goodness he at least has the insurance policy and if it really is for $5m - then that will give him great financial start in life.

Decker I hope at least apologized to him after that game. Wonder if he ever did.

I'm with Echo, it was late and uncalled for but 'cheapshot' is too much. O-Line man are taught to keep blocking down field so the fact it was 5 yards away from the play is irrelevant. The fact that it was such a brutal injury to ND's best player magnified the push but that would have gone un-noticed otherwise.

They have. There was an article today saying that most teams have taken him off their draft board. As a NY Giant fan, would love to see them take him in the 2nd or 3rd round. Teams like the Panthers or Patriots would be smart to grab him at the end of the 1st round because they can afford to wait for his recovery.

Jaylon says he and Decker talked about two weeks ago and there are no hard feelings

i just don't think a shove can be considered a cheap shot. no one could have ever forseen the result of it. their certainly was no intent to injure.

far from a genius but pretty comfortable about my ability to discuss football. my knowledge and viewpoints come from an extensive background as both a player and coach. you ?

can we have any threads that in the end do not get taken over by a couple of posters acting like 3 year olds?
