I'm in Michigan for a few days hitting a number of schools to see Notre Dame targets in action. I'll have stories and full updates on most of the prospects, but I just wanted to give the latest recruiting nuts and bolts with a school-by-school outlook.

Orchard Lake St. Mary's – It looks like it's a Notre Dame-Michigan battle for '17 four-star linebacker Joshua Ross, and the Irish appear to hold the early edge for the rising junior, even with Ross' brother, James, on the roster at Michigan. Joshua said he's trying to secure travel plans to visit South Bend for the season opener against Texas on Sept. 5. He added that he's not in a rush to make a decision and likes defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.

Kahlee Hamler, a three-star '17 wideout, visited Notre Dame back in March and was at the Irish Invasion two years ago. He says there's some contact with the coaches, but West Virginia appears to be the team to beat, for now.

Ann Arbor Skyline – Notre Dame continues to recruit five-star linebacker and USC commit Daelin Hayes. While he said that he believes his relationship with the Trojans is the strongest it has ever been, he didn't deny the fact that there has been some contact with Irish assistant coach and area recruiter Keith Gilmore. Hayes says he only had one official visit planned – to USC – but Notre Dame will continue to push for one down the line.

Farmington Hills HarrisonKhalid Kareem gave a verbal pledge to Alabama back in June. At the time, the four-star defensive end said the Irish were a legit finalist, but the contact between the two parties has since died. Kareem said he continues to talk with Michigan and a little bit with Tennessee, but he's committed to Alabama, and not in talks with Gilmore anymore.

Farmington – Michigan three-star linebacker commit David Reese was at the Irish Invasion back in June. He said that Notre Dame recently asked for his transcripts, but he's solid on his pledge to the Wolverines. It should be noted that Reese's father played for Gilmore in college, so there's some ties there.

Brother Rice Carter Dunaway might have just one varsity catch to his name, but the three-star rising junior tight end has already given a verbal commitment to play at Michigan. He said there was some interest in Notre Dame at one time, but he's solid to the Wolverines, where his brother is a walk-on.

I'll have more to come in the coming days.
