Notre Dame was recruiting in California, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, Indiana, Missouri and Texas on Thursday. They saw Rivals100 prospects, visited some powerhouse high schools and ate burritos.
Here's what we know...
Sanford Sets Up Camp In LA
Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Sanford made his was back in California on Thursday, where he’ll set up shop for the next few days. Sanford hit a few schools before downing a burrito in Corona.
Here’s who he checked up on…
Rivals100 WR Javon McKinley
Rivals100 ATH Damian Alloway
Rivals100 RB Stephen Carr - USC commit.
3-star safety Chacho Ulloa
McKinley is obviously the big target for Notre Dame. The Corona Centennial High product was in South Bend last month for an unofficial visit, and is already talking about making a return trip to campus for an official visit during the season. His teammate Ulloa, also holds a Notre Dame offer, and is giving the Irish a hard look, as well.
Alloway and Carr both play running back at Fontana Summit, and both claim plenty of scholarship offers, but neither one of them holds a bid from Notre Dame. We're told that Alloway is high on the Irish, but is also considering a number of PAC-12 schools. An offer however could shake things up.
BVG At Ga. Powerhouse
Irish defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder was at Roswell (Ga.) High on Thursday, which is the home to Rivals100 linebacker Tre Lamar. Lamar told Blue & Gold Illustrated back in January that he wanted an Irish offer, and he got one, but not much has changed since. A more realistic target might be Lamar's running mate, three-star linebacker Tyrone Hooper, who holds offers from Virginia Tech, Cincinnati and Wake Forest.
Lyght Sees DT
Todd Lyght was in Houston on Thursday. The defensive backs coach was at Westside High to drop in on three-star defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, who has seen his stock take off. The tackle recently decommitted from Baylor and named his USC his top school.
Booker At Va. Powerhouse
While VanGorder was at one football factory, tight ends coach Scott Booker was at another. Booker passed through Virginia Beach Ocean Lakes, which has a number of prospects, including five-star cornerback and FSU commit Lavonte Taylor. Other recruits at the school include 2017 four-star running back Khalan Laborn and 2017 four-star athlete Eric Crosby.
Booker was also at Bealeton Liberty High to gather information about linebacker Chase Pines, who will camp for the Irish Invasion on June 19.
Denbrock Checks In On Target
After having a day off, Irish associate head coach Mike Denbrock was back out on the road Thursday and he checked in on one of his top targets. Blue & Gold Illustrated was able to confirm that Denbrock was at Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers for Rivals250 wideout Austin Mack.
Denson In ‘Bama
Notre Dame running backs coach Autry Denson was in Alabama on Thursday. The name to know there? Gordo High five-star linebacker Ben Davis, who has said multiple times that he would like to visit Notre Dame, despite his strong ties to the in-state Crimson Tide.
Gilmore Checks In On Northwestern Commit
Blue & Gold Illustrated wrote on Wednesday, that St. Louis (Mo.) Chaminade three-star cornerback Roderick Campbell was still talking to the Irish, and defensive line coach Keith Gilmore was at his school on Thursday. Campbell remains solid on his pledge to Northwestern, but Notre Dame is lingering from a distance.
On Deck
- Irish recruiting coordinator Mike Elston is expected to be in the Memphis area, where he will check up on Rivals250 cornerback Donte' Vaughn. Full story ... here.
- Sanford is expected to watch a number of underclassmen workout at Los Angeles Augustus Hawkins on Friday. The list of prospects there includes 2017 wideout Joseph Lewis and 2018 wideout Jalen Hall.
