Let's face it just about everybody on this board and anybody who knows football did not have ND going into Columbus and winning much less covering the spread, but ND went toe to toe and had more opporrunities to win than it needed add in a few questionable calls at the right time and the Bucks get luck. Strickly vanilla on offense next to no creativity or misdirection involved. ND is not going to line up and blow the big boys off of the ball. Once again , Ree's did not show much as an OC and MF has shown he is not shy about changing coach's
Reality also has a bright side to it: TB is a gamer with very lively accurate arm. The defense call play with anybody when they do not get worn down from bad offensive play calling. ND was without it's best O-lineman. AE is a bully at 230lbs almost reminds me of a mini bus. Mayer picked up where he left off. The Irish should run the table barring a rash of injuries, but the play calling must improve or changes need to be made.
Nobody will keep a one loss ND team out of the playoffs.
By all rights, ND could have won that game . THIS ONE STILL HURTS

ND played a hell of a lot better then I thought. Hi versed the 17.5 point spread. WR’s where a no show. Mayer only had 30 yards on 5 catches, that was not good. Running game was not great at all. And the double safety blitz and leaving a freshman CB all by himself. Lots to work on.

The double safety blitz was the only mistake Golden made. He took a gamble and got burned. Outside of that one play the Defense played very well. It's the offense that needs to improve. We knew we were thin at WR going in, and it showed.
Offensive line needs to learn how to open up running lanes. Not sure why they can't run block.
I'm hoping Reese can make the needed adjustments to improve the offensive output vs top teams.

He rushed 2 once got burned for big third down and rush 3 once and gave up a big run.
He only did each of those once. Our lbs aren’t athletic enough to fill gaps rushing so few.

The double safety blitz resulted in points. When he rushed 2 it resulted in zero points . The drive eventually stalled. Again if I told you the ND defense would only give up 21 points prior to the game, you would have been ecstatic.

I've seen a ton of ND people slamming Rees - and lack of adjustments - but here's something to think about - maybe the ND offense wasn't as bad as many are making it out to be.......that OSU defense might have - just maybe - played a big part in why ND couldn't move the ball. Yep, the same defense that a poster - on this site - said would get drilled with 250 to 300 yards rushing even though OSU basically brought in a whole new defensive staff to replace the horrible one from 2021.

The OSU defensive coaches were rotating 10 DL players throughout the game and if you don't think that doesn't take a toll, go back a look at ND's OL in the 4th quarter - they were beat and totally exhausted. And OSU returns 8 of those DLs in 2023 - everyone except J. Cage and probably Zach Harrison. Same with ND's DL. They were whipped and in the 4th you could have driven a mack truck - untouched - through those massive holes.

My point - quit blaming the ND coaches. OSU's depth is what did ND in - especially when it counts in the 2nd half - late in the game

Well... I think we all need to be honest as well in the fact that ND played them in game one. If you're going to play a OSU or Alabama type team, lets play them game one. OSU was also without their top reciever and deep threat.

This game went exactly as I expected it to in all honesty. ND is sluggish on offense, will struggle a lot to move the ball and that means the strength of this team, the defensive, will have issues late in games against the better teams on the schedule when the O constantly goes three and out or can't sustain any drives.

Exactly what happened

With injuries to a couple of receivers, Ohio State wasn't operating at 100%. I think in a month or so, they will be back to late last season's form.

Freeman must have been thinking, a "respectable" loss to Ohio State and 11 wins will get him into the playoff. That is the only reason you punt late in the 4th down two scores.

I agree, I got prodded for not picking ND over OSU. I actually thought OSU would win the game 47-24 or so.

Did I hope for a big win, of course, but I didn’t expect it. OSU really is a phenomenal team, I expect them to be no worse then 11-1, probably 12-0 and win the B1G title

Agree on this as well. OSU played great defense for for a long time prior to the 2019 season. They have a shit ton of 4-5 star players on that side, but had poor DC’s. I think OSU will have a vastly improved defense this season.

Be careful interjecting facts on this board of armchair know it alls, and fire the coaches crew. For me, you are spot on. We are a top 10 team who got beat by a top 1 or 2 team, on the road with a first time starting QB. No shame in that; and if some can't accept that, then they prove how little they know

I had money on them to cover the spread. I thought about the money line bet due to the payout. So you are half correct....I hoped they would win....thought they would cover. The issue is they had a chance...but the same game plan that kept us in it needed to change once things settled down and we were leading in the 2nd half.

Nah -- sounds like too much common sense for this board to handle.
