Looks like we wanted to add a body with the departure of Diggs. Not much action with Penn State last year, but it never hurts to add depth. Welcome aboard Devyn!

Proves Diggs was a loss despite the cognitive dissonance.
I think it proves they don’t expect price to be ready

Ford didn’t have one good season at psu and was there for 4… yes psu has recruited rb better than us but still. He quit the team last year

Why not then with really good players? Ford is ok but he couldn’t cut it at psu
Because he's just a depth piece. Hard to get someone at the top when they know Estime is the starter. We have the extra schollies so why not use it in case of an injury? It's just smart team management.

If they brought in a piece at WR it wouldn't surprise me either.

Swarbrick could walk into the Gug tomorrow and take a big squat in the middle of training table and call it ND football, and you would find a way to twist it into a program win somehow.

Fact: ND lost a key member of the RB committee to a better program
Fact: ND replaced key member of the RB committee with a scrimmage team tackling dummy
Fact: ND is worse off as a result

Take the L and keep it moving--nothing else needs to be said.

Is Diggs better than this kid, yeah of course. He's not a Diggs replacement. He's just here for depth

I dont think Diggs is anything special. I've said that for 2 years. He's average to me

I think Price and Love are both more talented players

I did not lose any sleep over Logan Diggs transferring. It's meh

This is possibly the biggest pile of shit I've ever seen on this board.

1. Nd isn't replacing diggs. They are replacing his production. Between Payne and Ford ND should be able to get 80-90% of diggs production on a similar number of carries. Full stop.
2. Both have injury histories which makes sense to have two vs one for the same roll.
3. It's a hedge on price not being fully back this year or at best the end of the year. A healthy price pushes both down the depth chart
4. This move solidifies Tyree as a slot and not having to bounce back to rb in a worst case scenario.

But keep being a dumbass troll and fake fan.

Also...diggs was Tommy's golden boy, even though DeLand was quite clear walking in the door that estime should be playing more. Diggs is a good not great back, he was displaced last year by price of not for prices injury, that's a fact.

The fact is price may never be back to what he was. We need bodies to keep Tyree from bouncing back and forth. He's a low risk 3rd string back with high upside.

Absolutely helps and is welcome use of extra scholie

Diggs was a good back. I appreciated his versatility. But he realized that Estime was going to get more carries, so he left. Wish he hadn’t. He could be one play away from being #1.

RB recruiting has been very good. Price (top 200), Payne (top 250), Love (top 100) are damn good. My guess is Payne and Love replace Diggs’ production. Tyree was a 5 star. Incoming Williams is top 100.

Why the OP? Now some posters want to crap on the coaches’ effort to use extra schollies to build depth here. For a kid that was rated 6.0 back in HS. Why the complaints? It’s a good depth builder.

Yet the same felines will make it an issue. Complaining on both sides of the issue. Pathetic.

Diggs shoulda been mvp of the bowl game not Buchner. Buchner sucks. Diggs was a bigger loss to ND than Buchner. I expect Diggs has a huge year for LSU. Buchner will either be hurt or getting heckled out of Bryant Denny stadium. That said, hopefully Love is the best back on the team by seasons end.

I sure hope they bring in a stud at wr, we have talent but no proven players you can rely on

I’m really confident Thomas will be one but only hopeful with Tobias and wouldn’t be surprised with greathouse

Wr, interior dline, possible offensive guard

To me ford is probably third string to start the season and that only sticks if price isn’t ready or the same and love isn’t ready, or injury. I’m fine with the move, just hope we land position of great need too, like I’ve stated above

Hartman is a one year wonder. If the coaches can’t snag an elite receiver it’s a travesty. The chance to play with Hartman in a gold helmet on NBC and vie for a playoff as a feature WR is for nearly every receiver in America a once in a lifetime opportunity. It should be as easy as stealing candy from a baby to convince one to come to South Bend. But, I haven’t heard a whisper to suggest we are even trying. My guess is there isn’t anyone with the grades to get in.

So if there are no portal WRs able to gain entry to the university, why are complaining that no WRs are being recruited from the portal?

Ford for Diggs - Not a great swap for ND.
Why would you categorize it as a “swap” when nothing could be further than the truth.

It wasn’t a swap.

Chronologically, Diggs left, diminishing the talent pool at RB.

Subsequently, Ford entered, increasing the talent pool at RB.

WHY would anyone object to acquiring Ford ?

Diggs knew Price was taking his spot this year. Made a move to stay the #2 back. I like getting some seasoned insurance at the position.

It's ridiculous that some on this board want 4-5 star athletes 3-4 deep at every position. lol

This is a top 5 dumbest comment I've read on this forum.

Because there aren't a lot of really good players still available at this point. Most of the highly sought after transfers have already found a home. So this looks like a good move for depth.

You’re contradicting yourself.

On one hand you say that it should be as “easy as stealing candy from a baby” and then you state that “there isn’t anyone with the grades to get in.”

If it was easy, they’d be here by now.

You’re probably right. I was just thinking if I were the nations top 10 receiver and my QB sucked, I’d be all over ND. But we have a lot of restrictions.

Academic standards are an impediment, but they should be upheld !
Agree but only so much as it isn’t hypocritical. They already bend the rules academically to a substantial level for HS athletes. Compare that with the general student body that is paying a fortune to attend on top of sterling grades. For instance, a non athlete needs at least a 4.0 and like a 95th percentile SAT score. Half the football scholarships are given to kids with less than a 3.5 and a significant percentage in the 2 point something range, many with laughable SAT scores in comparison to the general ND student population. Setting aside political correctness, the average football player is the dumbest kid in the class and it’s not even close.

All A’s and B’s at random U is far better than a 2.5 from random HS, where kids can retake tests and get A’s for breathing. Undoubtedly they cannot create credits for classes that don’t exist for undergraduate transfers, but if we are rejecting B’s for the same college course, while simultaneously accepting kids from the lower tier of the academic pool out of high school for the “soft” factor, I have less to no issue with accepting a hard earned B in biology from an SEC school for a kid with a college level proven “soft” factor. In other words, ND should have no issue accepting a Sam Hartman as a sophomore so long as his credits are being awarded for classes he actually completed and that ND offers. Since ND accepts high school Advanced Placement (AP) credits (usually need a top score of 5, but that’s not undoable at all) they should just as easily accept a B grade from a respectable and accredited university.

I prefer to look at this positively. I do not accept that “Ford could not make it at psu”. Fact is the kid was not healthy after his freshman year when he had a good year. I think he has a lot in the tank and whole rankings can be wrong, it is a stretch to think the number one apb of 2019 can’t cut it at psu. Nick singleton or any other rb at psu is not the full reason Ford did not play He was sick. It’s not a bad use of a scholie and has upside
